Got a question... Can I take multivitamins on Medifast Diet? Thanks for any answer. Second question of mine... Hi everyone!.

I was thinking that I would like to start a new group for Mom's using Medifast. I think that, ecspecially for Mom's of young children, there are specific issues that crop up! Having additional support is always great, so I thought I would post this and see what happens!..

I'm a returning Medifast mom, I had to stop because I got pregnant, then was nursing. I still am nursing, but baby boy is almost 18 months so he is slowly backing off. Luckily I didn't really gain during my time off, but I need to finish what I started! We have 6 kids, 3 boys, 3 girls, ages 17 months to 20 years....

I would love the adult connection during the day! Good luck to all of us, Medifast really worked for me before and I am excited to be back. I do have to say that I allow myself slightly more for my L&G, an extra ounce of L and an extra 1/2 serving of G, since I am still nursing him.....

Hiya! I'm a SAHM who is also homeschooling. My 'baby' is 12, but I could definitely deal with some grown-up conversation in my day. I think it's also really hard to bring something like Medifast into a family and say "Okay, this is what Mom's doing let's kinda change things up and eat differently!" I'm having a hard time with it. I'm three weeks in and still not adjusting to the change. I'll definitely take any advice on how any of ya'll have introduced this to your families...

I wish I could say that cooking more than one meal was a change, but alas, I've been doing that for-ever! We eat LOTS of chicken (about the only thing all the kids will eat) so I kind of steam/poach chicken tenderloin breasts, separate out my portion, then throw together their side dishes & season the chicken to match (throwing with love of course)..

To keep my hands out of their sides, I normally snack on part of my L&G (I turn everything into a salad)....

One thing that changed for me last time, and stuck, is our fast food habits. We are super busy, like all of you guys, and while I'm too ashamed to tell you how often we hit the drive thru, I can tell you that people know our car when it pulls in and El Pollo Loco even gives us free diet cokes *ahem* BUT - when I started looking at what I was eating so I wouldn't gain my weight back, I also started looking at what the kids were getting. A new rule came down, much to my kids sadness... only one "bad" food choice per meal. IE If they want a small fries, they have to have grilled chicken, and water or milk to drink. A smoothie counts as a bad food choice, so if they get that it's grilled chicken and a side salad.

In fact, 2 of my girls got tummy aches last time they chose crispy chicken, and although it may have been a coincidence I saw the propaganda opportunity and told them it was because the oil was really bad for them..

I realize that "good parents" probably wouldn't think of this as a big change, and they probably have to look at the menu while deciding what to order at Jack in the Box, but whatever - I'm trying - and we are eating at home WAY more than we used to.....

This sounds like the group for me!! I am a SAHM to 2 girls, 3 1/2 and 10. I just began my Medifast journey a week ago and am down almost 11 pounds. Im loving it so far, but, as many of you have stated..I to usually end up making 2 meals at dinner as well..one for the fam, and one for me. This is mainly b/c I cut way down on my meat consumption about 4 months ago and they dont care for my tofu or soy/veggie burgers! lol..I kinda dont blame them, the burgers just dont taste the same without bread! Im not even sure why I gave up meant honestly, maybe I should start eating it again! lol..anyway, glad to find a group where I will fit in! Jen..

Laura-my family was the same way. Fast Food 2 - 4 days a week. It was horrible. When I started Medifast the fast food stopped. Not on purpose really but since I wasn't eating it, we kinda just stopped going and the kids never complained once. Now they eat it maybe once a week.

I really don't want them starting off this early in life with bad eating habits and weight issues. Thanks goodness for MF!! It has somehow put the whole family on the right track.

Speaking of family...I have two kids named Audrey and Finn from my first marriage. They are 10 and 7. After I got divorced, I lost about 40 pounds on Medifast and then met my new husband and got married and and promptly got pregnant with my third baby. Her name is Dorothy.

She will turn 4 on April 22. Having young kids has been a major challange with MF. Most nights they eat a l and g with a carb added. It's hard not to LBT their food. Especially the 3 year old. Her food had to be cut up into bite size pieces and tested for tempurature so my way of doing that was to eat a bite.

That was a tough habit to break. But I did!!..

I never saw this thread before today. I'm a mommie, too! My child is 16, and goes to public school, but I alwasys enjoy hearing the exploits of young motherhood. :P.

My two cents on the topic is that my son is my best supporter and monitor. He watches everything I eat, and is always asking menacingly "Is that on your plan?!" He will even hide food from me that he knows will be tempting. (like rolls at a restaurant).

Take note young mothers - one day your child will be old enough to go to the store for you and monitor your dieting habits!.

Have a great day!..

Hi, all! We have seven children, ages 18, 14, 12, 9, 6, 5, and 18 months. We homeschooled until this school year (we moved to a teensy little town in the middle of nowhere, Idaho, and the schools are more like group homeschooling than schools! 12 kids in a class and WONDERFUL teachers who are supportive of parents). Our oldest will be heading off to college this coming fall (yikes!).

I do occasionally make two meals for dinner... but normally I just make extra sides for the kids and Steven. It's not a huge change for THEM... they've always eaten healthfully (I'm far better as a mother than I am as a person, if that makes sense)..

There isn't any fast food in town, just one burger joint that I think all their food tastes nasty and one sit down restaurant (where everything has sauces or is fried, but I've learned how to order in such a way that we can occasionally go there.).

The kids are actually really supportive... they're happy to see me happy and I'm actually eating a lot more like THEY do now! My oldest is especially supportive. Since I started doing Turbo Jam, she does it with me, and has taken off that tiny bit of pudge she picked up since cutting down her own activities to focus on SATs, ACTs and college prep stuff. She's got a ton more self confidence and I'm actually going to have to alter her prom dress to make it fit... she's toned up that much! (Didn't figure it would take much, she already eats healthfully and she used to do gymnastics, ballet and Tae Kwon Do, so the muscles are there, just not used lately.)..

Hello everyone!.

I'm a full-time mom to one daughter, who is (GULP) 20 months old. How fast they grow!.

I started my pregnancy obese. I gained around 25-30 pounds during pregnancy, which magically melted off, plus an additional 11 pounds, by my 6 week post-partum visit. (Please don't hate me!) With breastfeeding, the pounds kept melting off without trying. My daughter was a chubby chubby baby. I think I lost 1-2 pounds for every pound she gained..

But then... my daughter started solids (and stopped gaining weight) and my pounds starting piling back on... fast. I think I got a bit giddy and overly self-confident after losing so much weight without trying. Back up to obese my BMI went!.

SO, here I am on Medifast!.

I would love to be blessed with more babies, but vowed that I would start my next pregnancy at a healthy weight. Plus, I am so sick of yo-yo-ing up and down the scale. I really want to figure out that whole "eating healthy for life" thing!.

My girl is a big motivation. She mimic's so many things I do, it's really scary in a way. I know I need to set a good example for her, in terms of loving my body/myself and taking care of it. I don't want her growing up with the same body issues I had, if I can help it..

One really neat thing: she's a naturally healthy eater! She loves fruit and dairy, she will eat vegetables, and is NOT fond of any kind of pasta (my weakness). I cannot get her to eat meat (but she will eat eggs). I think she has taught me a thing or two! I'm trying very hard to start her off with good habits..

How sad is it that I don't know how to feed myself correctly... and I'm an adult! LOL.

Nice to meet you all and I hope to see more posts! I'm not very "discussion board" savvy, so I'm learning a bit along the way..

Happy Losing!..

Here's something I'm interested in finding out from everyone...how are you handling being around your child's food? Obviously our little guys and gals can't be on a low fat low carb diet, so if you're like me I usually add a side for DH and my little guy when I eat my lean and green. is it difficult for you to be around their food? I know one of the hardest things for me was touching my sons food with out actually putting it in my mouth..i never realized how many little tastes here and there I was tasting!!..

I honestly have very little problems with the kid food. In the past I have had zero willpower, but Medifast has changed me! My children eat very little meat. My daughter eats a wide variety of fruits, veggies, rice, beans, and lentils. My husband has a long commute and usually doesn't get home until 6:30-7The kids and I eat around 5 or so. He eats my protein plus her dinner. My sons are another matter! My four year old is insanely picky.

The 16 month old is well, a toddler. Who knows?.

I have been able to fix them mac and cheese, waffles, muffins, without indulging. I make most of our food from scratch too. I love to cook..

L&G....

Taco night. I make the ground turkey and add my own spice blend. For my hubby and daughter, I add black beans. I eat it over romaine with some shredded cheese and salsa/sour cream mix. The boys eats cheese and black bean quesadillas..

Rotisserie chicken- I pull all the meat off. Breast for all but baby. We mak him eat the dark meat. I add salsa verde to it and serve it over cilantro lime rice and zuchinni. This is my daughter's favorite!.

All those little tastes add up. I never realized how much I snack during the day! I find myself with so much more time now. I have learned to knit, crochet, and even started planning a business! Now, if I could just use that time to clean my house..

Have a great day all!..

Kids' food is not a problem here... I've always made sure the kids ate healthfully even if I didn't. And with seven of them... I don't fix special meals or tolerate "pickiness". There are a handful of foods that between all seven of them one or two don't like. None of them like eggplant but I think that's because I have no clue how to cook it (and don't care to learn).

No biggies there... I just make sure there are other choices, like brussels sprouts, that she loves on the nights I serve those..

Aside from that they love all fruits and veggies, lean meats, whole grains (breakfast for the kids here is a daily bowl of oatmeal with fruit and nuts. Once in a blue moon they'll get pancakes, but it's a pretty predictable breakfast that fills them up and warms them up. It's freezing up here!)..

Ella- I wish I hadn't started the "seperate meal". My middle guy was allergic to dairy for over two years, so I always had to do "special" meals from him. I never broke the habit. Totally my fault. I can't justify it anymore. Our breakfasts are usually three choices- fruit smoothies with yogurt, yogurt and bleuberries, or oatmeal.

Wow. 7 kids? That is awesome. I would love to have one more, but I don't know right now. I feel like I need to make myself healthy before I decide. I'm only 32- I'm giving myself till 35...

I know what you mean about those little tastes! When I first started Medifast, I caught myself so many times going to lick the spoon after dishing out my daughter's yogurt or wanting "just a bite" of her cheese stick. For me, just being aware of those automatic behaviors helps me stop..

Occasionally it's hard to be around the food of my family. My little one eats pretty healthy, but my husband likes his carbs in the evening and occasionally brings home fast food or pizza for himself. If I'm feeling VERY weak willed or irritable, I just remove myself from the kitchen while he eats (but that has only happened a couple times)...

Kids really are a great source of motivation, are they not? When I got pregnant, suddenly what I put in my mouth wasn't about me or my waistline, but properly growing a little human. Talk about a shift in perspective! Ladies- I am really lucky. I am originally from Indiana and worked there full time as a preschool teacher. We were transferred to NYC when my daughter was nearly four and I was five months pregnant with my second. We lived in the city for one year and now live about 25 miles from the city on Long Island. We live in a beach town, 2 blocks from the beach. We have a great boardwalk where you can jog, bike, and stroll right along the beach.

I am able to stay home with our now 3 kids. I just pop the little guy in the jogger and go. It is also a very pedestrian friendly community. I have school, playgrounds, drugstore, restaurants, grocery, all within a 6 block radius. I feel like I am ridiculously lucky.

I then will have the happiness and health and ability to pay that forward..

I am hoping to start my C25K today. I walk everyday, but it is my daily errands, not for exercise. I am just starting fresh with the challenge. My yoga teacher said this in class yesterday and it stuck." You have your life ahead of you. You can do ANYTHING for 60 seconds." That's how I feel about the running. I have been ambivalent about it, but hey, I CAN do anything for 60 seconds.

Ella- my husband and I daydream about moving to the middle of nowhere and having a gangload of kids!..

The first week is the hardest, by far! For my Lean and Green's, the more I prepare in advance, the easier it is to stick with it..

I think my husband just rolled his eyes when I said I was going on yet another diet. I usually last as long as it takes to lose 10-15 pounds, then give up. Medifast is the first program, ever, that I've stuck to for any significant length of time. For me, my rate of weight loss has been faster than any other diet, which makes it worth it and keeps me motivated..

Keep us posted about how your first week goes!..

I admire all you lovely ladies with a bunch of kids. You should all get together and write a book. Something about efficiency and keeping ones sanity, perhaps?.

At times I want as many kids as possible... at other times I think my ONE little girl already runs circles around me and I'm not cut out for more. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in your house for a day!..

Hi, thought I joined but perhaps I didn't? Ah well, old age. Who knows? Homeschooling mom of 7, nanna to 1, and would just LOVE to be around other moms who have to plan around other people's needs and requirements and still make complete sentences and stay on plan LOL! I'm back on Medifast after going home to visit family last Nov, and falling off the wagon, and losing the wagon so I couldn't climb back up on it...I've been blessed to lose 10 pounds this week, and I really want to start looking on this as a lifestyle change! I didn't realize how often I did BLTs until this past week!!!! Thanks for starting this group!..

I'm joining in if that's ok! I'm new, only 4 days old so far not too bad. I'm a homeschool mom to 4 kids ages 6-15 3 girls & 1 boy. Trying to fit in the exercise is hard and the diet is tough when your kids like to bake. Training for my first marathon (but can't run a comfortable 1 mile yet....lol) with Marathon Makeover for couch potatoes. I have run (walk-jogged) in the past and it has helped me lose weight before..

Looking forward to meeting other mothers going through this same journey!..

Morning Mommies!! I am a Wednesday weigher. Today's weigh in was -.8. I expected it. I added exercise last week. 90 minute Bikram 3 days and one day of C25K. I have to say I love the yoga.

I have promised myself to do The Race For The Cure in NYC on September 18. I have a while still. I'm going to focus on the yoga and pick the running up in another month or so. I have to run with my 16 month old in the stroller and in NY, we are not having morning consistantly warm enough. I also get insane wind coming off the ocean which makes it tough.

I use some Waldorf style teaching at home in addition to our wonderful public schools. I would love to send them to our local Waldorf school, but the $14000-$19000 yearly tuition per child doesn't make that possible!..

When we homeschooled I used the Robinson curriculum. LOVED it! (Still use a lot of it during summers and vacations. My 6 year old is home sick but she loves science so I pulled out one of her older sister's old science books (it's about 2 years old and about one grade ahead of Amanda) and she's reading her little heart out!..

Made a brownie just now for my dinner with a small plop of Peanut butter. Had to laugh at my self bc I was having hard time waiting for it to cool off and set. (3-5 min) I felt like I was one of my kids that burn their fingers trying to get cookies off the cookie sheet before they are cooled! LOL!.

This is only my second one. they seem a little dry. have any of you ladies tried them yet? My kids are enthralled that a brownie is my meal. The younger ones cant figure it out.

Well, I have to run to the dreaded mall. I am so not a shopper. my oldest DD is in a fashion show for a fund raiser for her high school. Tonight is the night that she is to pick an outfit from maceys. I have decided that it is time to purchase some new bras. One of the perks of losing weight is getting some new under garments that are not so ..ummm...matronly! The other day walking down stairs with a skirt on, I could feel something start to slip down my thighs...it was my undies! How funny is that?! I am floating in my bras.

Even my DH made a coment the other day that it may be time to get some new ones. Never thought I'd here that come from his mouth! So, I am bitting the bullet and heading out now that I finished my brownie and the others are muching on their lasagna. One of the pluses of having older kids is that they can clean up the kitchen after dinner!..

Deanna, nice to see you here!.

Autumn, congrats on the weight loss - down is down! You'll also start toning up I'll bet, as well! I use a canned curriculum for Catholics - Seton Home Study School. It's very challenging academically, but it works for us. I love not having to worry about whether I will miss a major concept when doing my own thing..

Allison, congrats! Glad you didn't lose the undies when you were out and about!! LOL! Have fun shopping for the new bits and pieces!..

Happy St Patty's Day!.

I live in a VERY Irish community and it is like a free for all. Green EVERYTHING! Bagels, cupcakes, beer, clothes, it is wild. Should I make my shakes green today to celebrate? I desperately need to catch up on housework today. I have a mountain of clothes to fold and put away, diapers to wash, dishes, sweeping and mopping... does the list ever end. I have seriously been thinking about hiring a service to come in and just clean everything one time.

They don't have to touch bedrooms, just the common areas. I have no idea how much that would cost. I know I should just do it myself, but if I can declutter everything, don't I deserve some assistance? Anyone use The Flylady? I love her in theory, but I can't make it all fit in. I also love Simple Mom. She is doing a spring cleaning series right now.

I think housework is so tied to weight, at least for me. I was fat and lazy. I was tired. I took naps instead of cleaning. Now, I am less fat and less lazy, so I need to get my booty in gear....

Have a great day!..

LOL, yeah I bet they're wondering why Mom can have a brownie for a meal. So cute!.

Happy bra shopping. I'm very modest and never had anyone properly measure me. But, when I was pregnant, I broke down and got fitted for a nursing bra. Actually, the lady just kind of measured me without asking, lol. BUT, it turned out to be a great thing. I was wearing the wrong size bra, by a lot.

Amazing!..

I try to do FlyLady, I really love her. I don't do everything she does or says to do, but some of her lessons have helped me tremendously. The biggest help, for me, is to pick up clutter for 15 minutes every night before I go to bed. As long as I can keep up on clutter and have everything put away, then actual cleaning is so much easier. Plus, the house looks tidy, even if it isn't truly "clean." I also try to do 1 load of laundry a day, beginning to end. That helps, too..

I had never heard of Simple Mom. I'm going to look her up, thanks for the tip!.

I've never had a cleaning service, but it might be worth a call to see what they would charge for a one time cleaning. Sometimes, just having a bit of help and a fresh start can make the world of difference for your motivation...

BWA HA HA.... I made the mistake of mentioning how lousy I felt in a text to DH's aunt. Next day I didn't hear the phone ring but I did hear the answering machine go off. There was Aunt Suzanne, loud! "Elisabeth... are you there??? What's going on.... are you PREGNANT???" I had to call his cousin to calm her down and remind her that it takes time until a test is even possible!!.

So, either stress has just seriously gotten to me... or time will tell. Just in case I have figured out a pregnancy T&M. (The joys of being a nurse! LOL)..

Hi Audrey, I didnt do the detox before starting so Im no help there! sorry!, but I was wondering if your drinking all your water? Also, if you get sooo hungry,I have seen alot of ppl sip on chicken stock( I cant think of the proper name right now!lol)..also, when I get soo hungry, I eat 5 almonds, drink water and do something to keep myself busy. If Im still hungry in, say 20 ,minutes or so, I will eat 5 more. This will usually hold me over until my next meal. Good luck and make sure you read the boards alot, they have lots of great advice and motivation!!!.

I've realized how much food is my source for emotional comfort, too. I wish a hot bubble bath was the solution, but it's not (although it does help a little)..

I keep reading that I need to exercise, but I just haven't had the motivation. I'm hoping that once the snow finally melts I can get out, walk, and get some stress relief that way. Anyway, long story short, yes I've been there!.

The first week was definitely the hardest for me. I have found that eating on a consistent schedule helps. That way, each meal is only 2-3 hours away. How neat that your husband is doing Medifast with you! That will really make meal for your Lean and Green easier. Hang in there, it gets easier...

Hi all! just got caught up on the past posts and sounds like we got a pretty good group of mommies and i'd love to join. I have a 4yr girl who will be turning 5 on april 19th. we are STILL in the planning phases of her party which is proving to be challenging this time. our choices are going to a little people gym but we can only invite 14 other kids and it's about 30mins away or going to a local pizza place w/an arcade (less than 10mins away) and we can invite everyone. of course my daughter wants the gym, but i'm trying to talk her into the pizza place : ).

I thought I would make a little banner that says.

Mommies on Medifast.

So we could "tag" ourselves and kinda make it official? let me know what you think!..

I would like to lose another 5-8 by then. We shall see. I added exercise and it is slowing my weight loss, BUT, I feel awesome and am noticing fat literally >melting< off in areas!.

Have a great Monday all!..

I would love to be a part of this group. As a SAHM, my kids are pretty much my life!.

I am a SAHM to three boys:7, almost 5, and 21 months. In my former life, I was a teacher. I was on Medifast before I had my youngest and lost 40 pounds. I gained all of that weight back when I got pregnant. I didn't watch what I ate, AT ALL!.

I've been back on since mid-Feb. and have done fairly well. I am a little upset right now though. I've been really sick this week and took nyquil (liquid) two nights in a row. Then last night, I thought...I wonder if this has carbs??? Sure enough, it does. I read somewhere like 19 carbs.

Maybe that is fluctuation? I don't know but I will NOT be taking nyquil again!.

Looking forward to getting to know other mamas!..
