Quick question... Does Nutrisystem work? is the food really good and healthy? Hoping for any response. My 2nd question... So I've been 100% for 3 weeks. Also have been exercising almost daily and have gone from 10 push ups to 50 and jog/walking a mile to running 3.2 (1.57 to the gym and back). I record my food daily and read these boards because the inspiration is awesome and it's real men with real issues trying to work together to be healthy..

Here's the rub...I'm starting to think that we're all too focused on dropping pounds and not focused enough on exercise and general health. I was so absolutely destroyed when I weighed in today and had only lost a pound this past week. I see everyone posting "11 pounds down!" or "10 lbs this week!" - where are the "I lost 3 inches on my waist!" or "Just added another mile to my daily run!" posts?.

Yes - I'm trying to make myself feel better because my weight loss was not what I expected. When I put on a shirt that I hadn't worn in 6 months (belly too big) I started thinking about this topic for discussion..

Thoughts?..

Yep, however you might want to make sure and wait for another commenter to confirm it as I am not very confident. Better yet, why don't you e-mail the Nutrisystem guys because they can help better...

Kinda on a tangent, I think - don't quote me tho - that if you do that much excerise then you need to up your calorie intake. NS, again I think, suggests 3-exercise a week @ 30-minutes each..

The amount you are doing might burn too many calories and force your system to go into starvation mode - and while in that mode you will lose no, or very little, weight. I'd call Nutrisystem and verify that...

I think all of you are right....

1) I agree that the focus shouldn't always be on weight (or loss), but getting healthy. The scale, however, is the one guide almost all of us use..

I think the important thing is to realize that you will have times when the scale doesn't tell the story, especially when you are exercising. It is interesting to take a day and weight yourself multiple times and see the changes. Your weight loss for week (if you only weight yourself once a week) can be affected by your last meal (i.e. using salt) which means you might not show the loss you really have had..

Over the time I have been on NS, I have averaged .4 lbs per day. That is about 2 lbs per week, which is a very healthy pace for losing weight. I believe you are at the same pace..

2) Exercising does add muscle weight, especially as you lose fat and your muscle gets denser. This is good and the fact your shift now fits is a great sign..

3) It is very possible that you are not consuming enough calories for the exercise you are getting. Your body will know that and will start holding on to the fat which will stop or hinder your weight lose. Call Nutrisystem and see if you should add additional calories..

Best of luck,.

Clark..

The weight loss is the one thing that shows you are getting healthy and hopefully learning a new lifestyle. I do see all sorts of posts that are NSV but behind each one is the weight loss and new lifestyle..

As far as a pound lost, that is so much better than a 1/2 pound gained. Every person will run into times where they reach a plateau but that does not mean your body is not changing..

Change up your excercise routine for a week, drink more water. Bottom line is to not lose the faith as you lost a pound. Keep it up and I am sure you will see different results in another week...

The Rule of Three strikes again..

Most people see a significant drop in the amount of weight they lose in the third week. It's normal. Your body is in a bit of a shock from all the weight you've lost so far, so it tries to hold on to the fat. Stay on plan and your body will relax and start letting it go again soon..

You're right, though. We should be more focused on being healthy vs just losing weight...

Paparazzi, anything over walking 30 minutes a day makes it much harder to drop the pounds - your post has been repeated over and over again. I think Ben may have found the answer with the Bodybug. For me there is a VERY narrow range of calories where I drop weight - I'm convinced the range is about 400 calories. Below or above that range I just don't lose. In range I can easily drop 3 pounds per week consistently..

Without something like the Bodybug it's very hard to hit that "gateway" number of calories. The benefits of the exercise you're doing are great. Investing in something like the BB may be VERY worthwhile!..

I think if we were able to do a labwork along the way we'd be able to see real results on how this diet was affecting our health internally, not just on the scale..

Case in point, my triglycerides levels were at 297 3 months ago before I started this diet (normal is 35-135). A few days ago I had a lab recheck and it was 173. Not normal yet, but a huge drop and a huge victory.. I'll bet people all over these boards are having the same silent victories they just don't know about!..

All great information - thank you for the advice. I'll check things out - BB and maybe even labwork!.

I love the way I feel - pounds will come when they may, but it's sure easier to roll around on the floor with my 2 year old when I'm stronger, more flexible, and yes - lighter!..

I have been on Nutrisystem for about 10 months....I have seen lots of posts on the boards, blogs and pages about people who were amazed about their loss of inches or other NSVs like getting off of blood pressure or diabetes drugs... but you have to look because those victories only happen once in a while but dropping pounds with Nutrisystem happens almost every week...so you see lots more of those posts. Paparazzi, hang in there, do what feels good for you, and reap the rewards that make your life better...
