Hey All,.

Well my first day OP is almost over and I am SO impressed...I don't think that I should have ANY problems staying with the program! WOO HOO! Although this morning's oatmeal had me a bit concerned at first...but I did consume over 32 oz. of water with it! At work it gets a bit hectic with customers coming into my office and the phone ringing, so I was late with my mid-morning snack but it was great...Orange Creme Shake! It had been 3 1/2 hrs. Hope that doesn't hinder..

For lunch was the Chicken & Wild Rice soup...was not too bad, although I did add some salt & pepper (is that OK?). I had the most delicious chocolate mint bar this afternoon! YUM... and then for dinner I had chicken breast with a spinach/lettuce/cucumber salad. I am STUFFED! Tonight is the Dutch Chocolate shake. I may have had so much water that I might drown tonight...I think I have had around 200 oz. or so, but no other like coffee, soda, etc..

Everyone has been SO helpful and I really appreciate it. Any other tips/hints are always welcome!! Thanks again and I hope everyone's day went as well as mine today!!!.

First mini-goal: 20 pounds (move from obese to overweight at 180 pounds - BMI 29.9).

I have stumbled, but am back on the path!.

New Start: January 7, 2009 at 200 pounds.

I start the new job on May 19th. My new boss wanted me to start this Monday coming up. I told my current boss there was no freaking way I could get everything done in a week. That's CRAZY!! So I pushed for a second week. Most people at the moment get 6 weeks before starting the new job....all I can say is UGH!.

Water is good, I've been consistent of at least 12 glasses a day (these pills are making me feel dry) And I have also been fairly consistent with the 3-4 cups of real coffee plus all the decaf I can fit in. The pills make me feel crappy, which is good cause the smokes don't taste all that good either....I've only had 3 1/2 today. And weight gain is a side effect...LOVELY! My clothes aren't tight so I'm taking that as a positive..

Headache....stress and meds and weather changes are likely to blame. We're gonna get a wicked thunderstorm, rain, tonight...

If the clothes get tight, then I'd start worrying... I can't believe that weight gain is a side effect! Is it because people need to do something with their hands when they stop smoking? Crochet! Or knit!..

Houston - the lunar module has landed.

Flax Seed pills, cup of coffeee - flush, Dave is a happy boy.

Gonna have some oatmeal and hit the gym. I am not going into work until 2 cuz I have a awards dinner thing to attend tonight, that will run till 10 - gonna be a big temptation becuase the food at this place in plentiful and awesome but I am in the right mindset and will prevail..

Anybody but me got balls? hmmm?? anybody??.

I bought one of those workout balls - I just watched the DVD and the core workout looked pretty interesting, it's something I have never done but it looks awesome for toning - something I need so I can post that shirtless pic for you wonderful gals. I am thinking maybe lift and do my normal gym routine 2-3 times a week and the core workout 2 times a week....the yardwork will fill in the other days..

I always thought I was happy, there was just that one thing that made me not so happy - the weight. Now that it's melting away I am so much happier and I find that I have more patience, I am able to deal with the little BS things better and overall I must be an awesome guy to hang with lol.

I will never put that weight back on - 7 bags of clothes went off to Goodwill yesterday - I will never need them again!..

My workouts when the challenge begins will be the Biggest Loser Yoga alternating with Turbo Jam. I should look smoking hot when I head for San Fran in July!!.

And the exercise will certainly help with the not smoking when my quit day arrives..

Have a HAPPY Thursday everyone! Don't forget to drink and drink and drink....the water!!..

Dave - I love your posts! Always so positive and funny. Glad the flax/coffee combo worked!!!.

I look forward to that toned shirtless pic!.

Cheri - welcome!.

Julie - workout sounds fun. I do the Jillian workout on wii fit. That woman kicks your butt! Imagine how she is in person! She totally took me off guard when she took two of her contestants out for wine and a chill out session instead of working them into a sweat. I've been "running" on the wii and considering running outside now that the weather is nice. Might need a knee brace, but we'll see...

answered May 02 at 07:18

's gravatar image

I have tried running and I just do not enjoy it. But my knee is bad so I do have to wear a brace sometimes and I have to take glucosamine if I run too because my shins end up hurting so bad. So I don't run..

I have the Jillian Michaels wii game too, have you figured out how to get the person on the TV to mimic your movements or do you just ignore that she doesn't do what you are doing? I like the workout just not the pics.

Personally I liked Jillian's idea of showing them some balance. She was right, you can't live life like that all the time. Occasionally having a wine isn't a bad thing. Same with potatoes or a cookie. Smart choices, balancing out your day and not gorging yourself are the right choices. Well, that's what I got out of it.

Welcome Cheri!!..

I ignore the pics. I tend to over emphasize my movements to get my avi to cooperate, giving me an even bigger workout!.

That's why I'm wondering about running. I have chodromalacia bilatterally (knee cap rubs on thigh bone) and my knees are full of fluid and I can't bend the left one more than 90 degrees. I'm thinking about getting them drained first. I wouldn't know how to act with "real" knees!..

Yes the economy here sucks too! I live in Alberta, Oil Country and when it all hit the fan down in the States, it did here too. We just avoided it a bit longer than the rest of the country. It has slowed down but really all the businesses I deal with for work are keeping me super busy so I'm guessing they don't know they are supposed to be affected as well. I can tell you my investments have tanked so it's a really good thing I'm not retiring any time soon!.

Deb you make my job sound so glamourous!!.

Meeta - this is my 21st year at the bank. Right now I am a Commercial Account Manager dealing with non-borrowing clients and I set up all their electronic banking. Payroll, wires, etc. etc. I have about 400 accounts and I landed the biggest deal this year with a new client that will pay about $14,000/month in fees. (those are the times I wish I got a bit of commission!!) I also help the lending account managers to set up their clients.

I'm at the top of where I can go and my boss won't give me the break to start lending training. (I think I scare him).

My new job that I start in another 6 days!! Is Commercial Collector. SO the running joke right now is I'll be the Banker with the bat.

I am committed to doing that job for about two years and once an account manager position opens up in my new department, I get to start training so I can get my commercial limits. That will open up a lot of doors for me and allow me to continue my job progression. I'm too young to be stuck in a role that will take me nowhere..

I work with and for some amazing people. And I really can't imagine being anywhere else most days..

Meeta - use that positive thinking and wish for what you want. Attract the positive not the negative. You'll find something...

answered May 02 at 09:38

Deb - isn't running in barefeet worse for a person??? Maybe I'm wrong..

My kneecap rotates so I'm ruining all the cartilage behind it. If I am doing more strenuous kinda activity I wear my brace. But I have days where just sitting aggravates it like mad. This week has been particularly bad, almost everyday I'm trying to pop it, several times. So I'm going to have to give in and wear my brace to work and on the weekend to give it a rest..

Nice to know that I'm not the only one that exaggerates the moves for Jillian. I work up a sweat that's for sure!..

Volunteer work is awesome....I do quite a bit as well..

If you can't find a job right now, figure out your passion and find a volunteer position that will make you feel better. I love to volunteer, but there are a few organizations that get a whole lot more out of me and do soooo much to renew my spirit. Find that kinda group..

Paychecks are nice to have but if you can afford to give of your time, to me, that means a whole lot more to the people you are helping out..

Am I making any sense??? I feel like I'm a rambling today. Oh well, typing is better than smoking..

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Someone was asking how to join a team - her handle has moosheypoo in it. I told her to PM Deb and that the challenge starts Sunday. Deb should hear from her. Her name is Michele..

Julie congratulations on the new job. That is fantastic !!.

Meeta nothing wrong with having dreams. Many very successful endeavors start out as someone's dream. I agree with Julie that if you can financially afford to volunteer your time, then may God bless you !! My mother did the same thing when she was layed off a few years back. She volunteered at the Springfield Rescue Mission. She said that it meant so much more to her going to work every day, because she knew she was helping people. I don't know if it helps by telling you this, but I admire you for even thinking about it.

I can't wait to get going on this challenge. My husband is from Iraq, so when I told him about the challenge and joining the team, he said "oh awesome honey, like the biggest loser !!" (with his arabic accent)..

Have a fantastic weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful Mother's out there !!.

All the volunteer kids were invited to check out all the new things they have done over the fall and winter. New trails for the horses, new buildings, etc. They will get to go on the climbing wall and maybe even the zip line too. They have so much fun there..

Cost me $20 to send them off. And they pick them up not far from my house and bring them back too!!.

Both kids all day kept saying it didn't seem right that they won't be home for mother's day, I kept telling them I would see them Sunday and I got lots of I'll miss you texts today. Was very cute. Well all that lasted maybe 30 seconds when I dropped them off. Both of them took off and were hugging people and high fiving others and grinning like mad! Yep, they will have a lot of fun...

I'm still voting for the beach scene. It's so serene and, since I am a stress eater, it's calming!.

I've been keeping in touch with Deb via e-mail and lurking on this Board, but I haven't been posting. So many stressful things are happening right now and, although I am a pretty strong person, I was completely overwhelmed. One day 100% on plan, next day not quite. Next day, 100% on plan, next day not quite. But, when I started crying one day, for no reason, I knew I was at the abyss!.

So, I visited my doctor who put me on Celexa (I took it over three years ago with no side effects and good results). I took my first pill Thursday night. Maybe it's the placebo effect, maybe my system just soaks it up, but Friday I didn't even think about food and it was another stressful day at the law firm. I stayed 100% on plan. Walked by candy dishes on the secretaries' desks and didn't grab a single piece (I would take handfuls and then have to buy candy to replenish their stash). This morning I woke up refreshed and grabbed the dogs and we went for a long walk.

I'm am SO ready for this challenge!!!..

Hello everyone!!!.

So I'm on day 2 of my Medifast journey and I have to say it doesnt completely suck!! I was expecting headaches and miserableness. But have to say I havent felt anything like that. Kinda makes me think Im not doing it right. Ive been eating all the meals and for the lean and green a salad w/ turkey meat and a hard boiled egg some mushrooms and a little bit of sliced olives. Not sure if that was too much, it was only maybe 2 cups of salad. Today I had a chargilled salad from chick fil a minus all the extra stuff they put on it, I just left a few sprinkles of cheese.

Carbs per serving and like 20 calories. I havent ventured into most of the Medifast foods yet. I havent tryed the eggs or soups yet. The eggs scare me, so Ill have to wait to try those...

Good job Stacie! Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and avoid most the ketosis reaching symptoms. May hit you in the next couple days as well. For me it is tired more than anything..

If you don't have a scale to measure your L&G, I highly recommend getting one. Chances are you may be shorting your lean. But looks like you had great meals!!.

For the eggs, some suggest frying in a pan still, add salsa, etc. LOTS of suggestions for the soups. A lot of people suggest soaking it (overnight) if you can. Some add part of their lean or green some add spices, some add a bouillon cube..

Hope everyone is enjoying their day!! I got my flower beds done and I am off to the pub to meet some friends later on. There is a veggie burger on the menu so I may have that or a salad with either chicken or shrimp..

BBL on maybe..

Thank you!!.

How does this sound. How about some Lean ground turkey meat, some taco seasoning on lettuce with some low fat cheese w/ salsa. Is that okay on Medifast?.

How do I know how much of it to eat? I have a little cheap food scale. When I was calorie counting everything always sayed 4 ounces, I didnt know what that was. So I would just place turkey meat on there till it came to 4 ounces. I was reading in that book that they sent me about how to know how much your supposed to eat of chicken and stuff. So just basically I need to just weigh it out. Because I always think Im overeating, and hey this time I just might not be..

If my Lean and Green has basically no carbs would it be okay? Just maybe one night if I go out to eat can I have a steak w/ maybe a little bit of ketchup. Or maybe one night I just want some eggs and bacon. Is that okay? Right now Im trying to be very basic but I know down the road Im gonna want to mix it up..

I did try Atkins and South Beach and there were a few recipes that I thought I could live on. One is like shrimp scampi and then there was a taco bake. How about cheese with my Lean and Green because the shimp scampi recipe is just basically cheese shrimp and garlic. Does that sound legal on MF?.

One more question I know you can eat 7 ounces of shrimp but appoximately how many shrimp is that? The medium sized shimp?..

You have to watch when you add the cheese. It still counts as part of your lean so you would have to reduce the amount of turkey or shrimp. So you will need to do calculations. (and depending what kind of % your cheese has, it might not be worth it to add it cause you'll have next to nothing for meat).

Bacon is a no-no, I think there are veggie substitutes you can use instead (Deb can tell you for sure) and maybe turkey bacon?? I don't know for sure..

Remember that for your measuring, you measure in the state you are going to eat it. So if you cook your veggies, you have to measure it cooked, same with your meats, measure them cooked..

Shrimps, you get a TON!!.

Make sure you use low salt taco seasoning and that will count towards your condiments, same with the salsa, same with ketchup. You are allowed up to three condiments a day..

Use this to weigh your veggies..

Keep reading the quick start guide, peruse the Nutrition support board, ask Deb and keep it simple (that works easiest for me) Use the my plan feature on here, the drop downs help with your choices and keeps good track..

You're doing fine...

Just a quickie before the Radiologist comes in and kicks me off the computer in the Reading Room..

- thanks for helping Stacey out. I was so busy yesterday... have you ever sucked a salad thru a straw? LOL That's about how fast I had to eat yesterday. Most of the day, we had 8 ER patients pending at all times. Made the day go fast, that's for sure..

Then I got home to a sick kid. We had to make an emergency trip to Rite Aid for some tummy remedies. I think he ate something that didn't agree with him, but he thought he either had Swine Flu or the peanut Reece Cups he ate were taking revenge on him... (salmonella). LOL He's fine. Thank goodness for over the counter remedies.

At least I'm off tomorrow, I can sleep in a little. Made an appointment at the gym for 11 to be sure I make it! I think once I get going, I'll be OK, it's just getting started..

- glad you're back on track Girl! You're gonna do awesome on this challenge! Good for you for taking control of your life!.

- you're doing great Sweetie! Stick with us, and you'll be fine..

To all the MOM's out there! Do we ROCK? YES!!!!.

I'll check in when I get home tonight. Don't know what today holds as far as patient load, and I'm alone until 11a. Joy joy..

I look forward to seeing everyone's starting numbers today! Woot Woot! Are we psyched for this challenge?????? YAYYYYYYY Goooooooo Aubergine!..

Have a SUPER day and I hope all the ladies are spoiled today, Mom or not..

I am taking my Mom out for breakfast and then I see my grandparents later this afternoon for Mom and Dad's Day!! And then my kiddos get home!!! YAY!.

Deb - I was laughing so hard....suck salad through a straw...Yuck! Maybe you need to bring a blender to work.

Thank goodness for MF, at least you get to eat something sorta on the run. Hope today goes a bit better. Hope your son is feeling better this morning..

Starting weight for me: 138.7.

SOOOOOOOOOO much better than I thought it would be!! That means I was making reasonable choices most of the time!! Honestly this quit smoking thing is harder/easier than I thought. The smoking part is almost done! I'm to a measly 3 or less a day. But the snacking urge is horrible!!! And the sugar cravings even more so. 99% of the time I just drink more water but oooooohhhhhh it's tough...

- That would be wonderful! Wish it were so... I love a busy, colorful "signature"..

This banner is still my favorite (#2):.

- I have to give all the credit for the garden to my DH. He has done all the digging, planting, and weeding. I did help put in some onions. He even chose what to put into the garden! We will have to plug in the freezer in the basement if we harvest enough - hopefully will get us through some or all of the winter!.

Welcome Stacie and Cherrie!.

You will certainly find plenty of helpful hints and encouragement here. This is the chattiest group around, too!!!.

- you REALLY have to get a digital scale for your food. More expensive, but so much better than the other kind. I got one that was intended for postage, and measures up to 5 pounds. That means you can put your dinner plate on it, zero the scale, then add food (esp meat) until the weight is right. I appreciate your wanting to keep things simple, and eyeballing the food amounts is certainly easy. But once you establish the habit of.

Measuring and weighing EVERYTHING.

It will not only be easy, it will also take all the guesswork out of getting the right portions. The guidelines for L&G are so simple - and when you use the MY PLAN page to track how much you eat, it has built-in helps. Like when you put in a vegetable, it automatically puts in 0.5c and then you can go back in once entered and adjust the amount up or down. I use that feature when making salads, especially, because I use 0.25c of some things, or 2Tblsp of others. For dinner, I often just have meat and one vegetable, so adjust the amount from 0.5c to 1.5c. Take the time at the beginning to work on keeping track, and after a while it will be SO easy.

We love to help..

First mini-goal: 20 pounds (move from obese to overweight at 180 pounds - BMI 29.9).

I have stumbled, but am back on the path!.

New Start: January 7, 2009 at 200 pounds.

I have changed my ticker according to the weight added on by my new scale!!! It will take longer to reach first mini-goal, but I am still a loser...

I like #2.

Weighing in at 194.4 - up 0.2.

I lifted 3 times last week and was very active - am I hitting the wall or minor speed bump?..

Hi everyone!.

Welcome to all our new members!.

Julie, congratulations on quitting smoking! That is awesome! I know it's extremely difficult especially when you're trying to keep your weight off too. You can do it!!!!.

Deb, I like picture #1 but either one is fine..

My starting weight is 188.1. I was NOT on plan for mother's day at all yesterday. I'm trying to keep positive and hope that for this next challenge I will stay on plan. I have not been lately. Actually I haven't lost significantly since February. I'm VERY disappointed with myself.

I'm taking one day at a time..

Have a great day everyone. I'll check back in later...

I can't see the banners for some reason.

I'm excited about the new challenge! It does help me stay focused.

I've been OP since February 25th - and it really has worked. I've lost exactly 30 pounds (as of this morning). But WOW! This past week was the toughest week I've been through since I started! Suddenly, I'm hungry at the oddest times and REALLY want to eat something additional to the plan. I'm surprised it's happening again (the first week was like this) after all this time any clue why? I got through it and lost 2.4 pounds this week, which is a great reward for toughing it out. But I'd love to not have to go through that again!!!..

Hi...I'm a newbie, and I thank Deb for the invitation to join the team!! I was very excited when I got home from work today to find that my order has finally arrived. WOO HOO! I started reading my book and have just about finished it. Then I put together 5 days worth of meals in zip loc bags. I even grilled some extra chicken breasts this evening to put away for a "fast, hurry-up meal" for when I get home in case I feel extra hungry I won't have to wait for dinner!.

I did start increasing my water intake a couple of days ago and was shocked when I weighed in at work today to see that I had dropped 4 lbs.! It is amazing how your body will start letting loose of that retained water when it knows it is going to be 'watered' on a regular basis!.

My biggest obstacle this week is that I am the director of a bank travel/social club and we are sponsoring 3 days of luncheons (need that many days so everyone who wants to can come!). I am trying to think out how to plan my meals so that I don't actually eat with the group and then I think I will just walk around and serve coffee, tea, etc. rather than sitting down during the meal....???.

My next obstacle is that my middle son graduates from college this Saturday and we are celebrating with a brunch before everyone goes back home. Am I right in thinking that this should be my L&G for the day choosing wisely???.

I think I can (no, I KNOW I CAN) get past these with a little forethought and planning..

Sorry I have rambled here....probably not the place but I would LOVE to become a team member and participate in your upcoming challenge..
