The Percentage Posse SLASH THE POUNDS Challenge.

Starts on Tuesday, September 7, ends Sunday, October 31, 2010 and EVERYONE is welcome! We don't care if you're on another team or in another challenge - this challenge stands alone and doesn't interfere with any other activity. We welcome those in the weight loss phase as well as those in Transition & Maintenance!.

How to participate:.

Post the stats listed below to this thread between Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8. Our awesome Resident Statistician, Jan (a/k/a Yiayia), will gather and compute all the information to motivate us and keep us in line!.

Medifast start weight:.

Challenge start weight: (weight on 9/7/10).

Goal weight:.

Which Stage you are in: (5+1, Transition, Maintenance).

Starting Measurements (START and END of challenge ONLY).

Upper Arm:.

Chest:.

Waist:.

Hips:.

Thigh:.

*IMPORTANT when measuring, use the guidelines found under the MyPlan tab. Only tally measurements for ONE SIDE of the body. A loss of an inch on each thigh will count as one inch, not two inches, when the challenge wraps up. This is another great web tool to keep track of your progress!.

Weighing in:.

Weigh in weekly and post your current weight on the following Monday. Weights posted after Midnight (Eastern) on Mondays may not be included in the weekly statistics.

Post your current weight in pounds; not the change in weight.

Not weighing in:.

If you don't weigh in a particular week, the weight from your previous week's weigh in will be carried over.

If you did not weigh in the previous week, you will not be eligible for recognition in the weekly leader board standings.

If you don't weigh in for 3 weeks in a row, youll be dropped from the challenge. If you are going to be away for a while or need an exception for this, please PM Jan (Yiayia).

Challengers are encouraged to post tips, personal experiences, and just plain old chat! This is the best part of being in the Posseall the support & camaraderie!! NOTE:.

Using a different color for your stats is appreciated!.

Get ready to slash those pounds and make it a Halloween to remember! And, yes, we want to see pictures! Theyre not a requirement, but theyre sure to add fun to the final days of the challenge!.

Remember.. as with every part of the Medifast program, you are responsible for ensuring you are following the plan according to the guidelines. Persons participating in the challenge should continue to follow Medifast guidelines and only exercise for the appropriate time periods that their phase of the plan recommends. 1. Scroll up to the top of the page and click on the "Thread Tools" link.

Lisa, PLEASE don't go away!! Penny's not actively participating, and she's the captain/coach/starter-upper...whatever the official or otherwise title or role that she has. I'll track water, weight, measurements, whatever. I don't think I'll be losing too many inches overall - things seem to be rearranging, but I have extra skin too that just won't go away. Stick with the Posse...as long as we have a challenge going, they won't kick us to the clubhouse and even if they do, so what. And who's.

I just read the rules and I'm confused..

Little-Miss-Anal-Explain-it-in-excrutiating-detail wants to know...we're not reporting measurements weekly? Just start & end? I guess that makes sense - I wouldn't expect to lose inches every week. Right now, I measure once a month on my anniversary - and since I skipped August.....

OK, I'm babbling. I spent the day at the nearby state park where there's a nice little lake. My brain must be fried....couldn't stand all that sun after a week of gray skies, clouds and rain..

Lisa, don't get freaked out about the inches of skin. They come off more slowly than the weight, but they DO come off. I've been at goal since last October and look SO much better now than when I hit goal!.

Moisturize, work out, use a scrubby thing in the shower, hydrate, and give your skin time. It WILL get better!.

I guess I need to get a new picture up....

I'm just not here predictably enough to participate, but I'm rooting for all of us to stick to our plans and achieve our goals!..

Thanks Steph. Its so strange to be starting transition and my stomach is hanging..ok..not a pretty picture sorry. I have been dry brushing and moisturizing which I've been doing for about 6 months but since the weight has been on me for 20 plus years, I know alot of it wont go away. I'll wait a year and see where I am then. I guess I was having a feeling sorry for myself moment the last few days..

Okay...I just have to say that it is hilarious that Freddy Kruger is on the banner. I have so many tummy stretch marks that I always say it looks like I ate Freddy and he is trying to get out from the inside! Tickerfactory.com has 16 pages of ticker styles and 10 pages of counter choices - I didn't see any orange & black ones, but there's some bats on page 5 or 6.....

My grandma had a favorite saying "This too shall pass". It took me YEARS to figure out that although "IT" will pass, the important thing is what we do while "IT" is passing. There is that accountability thing that I tried to avoid when I was younger (yesterday).

AOtrega, you can do this, just take it one moment at a time, if need be. I'm in maintenance, and I still take my life in small increments, sometimes it's all I can handle..

Christy~ I am having the same football, costume, and Thanksgiving craving..

Well I decided that since the scale is not moving, I am going to do transition for a few weeks. After that I may jump back in. I think my body is just not wanting to go on. I want to stay in the challenge for sure. I still hope to lose, but after a year of Medifast and a month of no loss...I am ready for a break. So I started adding fruit today.

It has been an adventure, and I do not consider it over yet!..

Christy thank you so much for the encouragement! I am just gonna take it one packet at a time. I know I can do this. Sometimes I think about this journey and I realize that I will NEVER be able to eat the way I use too and I will always have to watch what I eat and sometimes that makes me sad. Is that wierd? Am I crazy? I think alot about my future because I know that this is a life change not just a temporary fix. In the beginning I used to think and say "I cant wait till I'm at goal so that I can eat what ever I want!" ....................I dont think like that anymore. I.

I've never done a challenge (only in week 7), but this one sounds good for me. The end of October my daughters and I always go to a Ren Faire and I am having difficulty squeezing into my corset and bodice. That will be the perfect gauge for me can I lace that bodice completely closed..

I've also wanted to add some resistance training to my my 3xweek walking. I'm ready to do some shrinking in Sep/Oct so I can do some shrieking on Halloween!.

DH and I love Ren Faires, too. I just tried on my bodice and skirt and they fit great! I haven't been able to wear them for a couple of years now and have missed going to the faires in costume. It's always more fun when you dress the part!..

Good Morning everyone! I hope all is well. I'm going to a BBQ this weekend and I'm having a hard time thinking about how I'm going to stay OP. HELP! AOrtega- Can you request the host cook a turkey burger of veggie burger for you, if you bring your own? If asked, just say you are trying to eat healthier, that's all you need to say! And bring a side of fresh greens, like salad. there is your lean and green, and totally OP. It's not easy being around tempting food, but it's even harder feeling bad about ourselves/being sick because of weight related issues, so if anyone says anything, tell them thanks for their concern. And turn around and walk away. That's the nice version, Steph has a couple of other versions that work well, too!.

Just remember, this is about YOU, and you having fun interacting with other people. Doesn't have to be about the food, like we have been so brainwashed into believing. You can do it!.

Kaphrodite- is that Brad Pitt I see? UMMMM....I always thought he looked delicious as a vampire.....

Mama: Do you know if there will also be grilled chicken there? You could be on plan with almost any grilled meat and LOTS of veggies. You don't have to go into detail about what you are on or you can just smile and say that you're doing 'the low carb thing' Even if comments are made or they roll their eyes you know that you are doing it for you!!! *hugs* Good luck. You can do it!.

AOrtega, I'm going to a cook out this weekend also and plan on bringing a chicken breast for them to cook for me and a salad in a tupperware container. You could make something and bring it with you or something they can throw on the grill for you, but either way you can stay op! it just takes a little planning and creativity..

So awesome to see so many fresh new folks who are joining this challenge!.

You all covered the bases with how to handle the cookouts this weekend. I just wanted to throw in that I'm the 'Salad Queen' when it comes to those things. I'm always the one who brings the huge salad to every event. That way I always have something to eat - and plenty to share. I went to dinner at my daughter-in-law's house one time when she was serving Italian. She had put aside a chicken breast for me, but forgot to cook it.



Can't wait to get this thing rolling!..

GOOD AFTERNOON, SLASHERS !!.

I have to go get a tape measure to get my measurements..... have never measured and with 75 lbs gone I need to do this !!.

I am not doing well in transition, ,,,,,, I want to eat all the time ..egads it's a terrible feeling so I am going to SLASH the fruits for now and see what happens..........does that sound like a good idea ?? I noticed the increased hunger the minute I added fruits in. I am in a miserable place right now..

Each time I have started Transition, I hop backon 5&1 it keeps my hunger at bay. Anything else massive FAIL.......Your measurements should inspire you though..

Hi Posse just had to share a couple of NSV's that happened with me today..

(1) I actually tucked my shirt into my pants today, 1st time in many many years..

(2) Wore a belt in the pants with the shirt that was tucked in (shocked that I still owned a belt)..

(3) Several indivudals in my office were e-mailing other co-workers in New York that I was losing weight and that I looked "Svelt". Interesting.

Especially sincee I was copied on all the e-mails and saw them when I got back from lunch..

(4) Managed eating lunch out for the 1st time while on MF. Made healthy choices.

(5) My mother inquired how much more weight I was going to lose, she did not want me to get too thin.okay now this one had me laughing. I am no where near skinny having just broke the 200 lb barrier. Do people think that this is easy, it takes work and commitmment..

Just had to share especially since they all happend today and I was really have a very bad week. Thanks for being there posse...

From the begining my mother has always said "I dont want you to get too thin" she even told me at one point that she was worried I was anorexic lol..go figure..when we decide to get healthy people are so use to seeing us a certain way that when we start to change, they have a hard time with it...

I don't know how I missed this before, but I did. Don't take this post the wrong way. I'm not without fault and I don't claim to know it all, but if anyone new (or at goal) thinks that staying on 5+1 forever is an option, please (PLEASE) know that 5+1 was never meant to be a permanent thing. This is coming from a health coach who could stand to make lots of money from people with that mindset. As an honest coach, and someone who learned the hard way, please believe me when I say that hopping back on 5+1 isn't the way to stop yourself from experiencing hunger when transitioning. Hunger is normal.

You have done amazingly well - look at your before and after pictures! Know that you can transition successfully and maintain in a healthy way without resorting back to 5+1 each time...

I don't take offense easily at all and I appreciate everyone's advie. I am petrified of maintaining. I think I am using the 5&1 as a safety net and I know I have to step outside of that zone. I am just really afraid to. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you for stepping up and offering your opinion. I do take each one and read them carefully...

It took me a long time to post that. I appreciate your candor. I don't like to butt in and offer unsolicited advice. But I, too, struggled when I reached goal and bounced on and off 5+1 for about 9 months before I just couldn't do it anymore. I was perpetually starving or eating too much, in a cycle, over and over. Once I accepted that I needed to come up with a reasonable maintenance plan I could live my life around (not the other way around), things started falling into place..

Don't get me wrong - I firmly believe this is the best weight loss plan on the planet. And it offers the best transition and maintenance plan, too. But when you're done, you're done, aside from using Medifast meals as a healthy snack, or a periodic "tune-up.".

Congratulations on your awesome success, by the way! Loved your Howe Caverns picture. That's where I took my husband and my daughter the weekend I reached OneDerLand last year!..

I posted the Howe Cavern photo because it was after I gained after I lost a couple years ago. I don't want to yo-yo anymore. I am going to start seeing a counselor to work on my ability to maintain. Thanks for posting this Challenge - I will have been on Medifast for 6 weeks on Monday, so that's a perfect time to get involved! The timing is also really great because the curling season (I"m an avid curler - the winter Olympic sport) starts in mid to late October and I want to be lighter than I ever have been in the 10 years I've been curling..

I am no expert - at least not yet! - but would it help you folks in Transition/Maintenance to eat a little lean protein with your fruit? Seems like that would keep the sugar uptake from happening so quickly......

I'm not going to be able to do the challenge. I can barely type this but I do not have the resources and will run out of food in about 10 days. I'll be back sometime in Oct when things have cleared up. I'm deathly afraid of getting sick from going off Medifast foods and even more scared that all my symptoms (terrible acne, mood swings, weight gain ect) is all going to hit me full force. I've seen the Medifast 'blurb' eat 3 L&G and make it last but I won't survive a month. For this reason I want to do the challenge even more to prove that I can stick to my guns.



(ebay suggestions do not work - it's just a tight month) I'm posting this as a blog too. I'm that upset..

Interesting you say that because I always have yogurt with my fruit. I never just eat my fruit alone. I seem to be less hungry this way...

Kim, I completely understand and was having a somewhat similiar discussion with myself just this week. I can only send you ((((Hugs)))) and hope to see you back on Medifast plan in October..

Drink your water, watch your calorie intake and burning (out going). Eat foods that were similiar to what you have been eating as part of you L&G. Keep your Fats, Carbs and protein in the 20-40-40 range and just don't take this as a license to go crazy eating..

Do this by keeping track of what you are eating..

Your posse will be here to get you through this short month..

Kaphrodite - please continue to hang out here while you're waiting to start up with official Medifast foods in Oct. Meanwhile, this is what Medifast told me to do when I ran out of food.

Completely.

If you're out of Medifast meals completely, you can have 1 serving of yogurt per day...and 9 servings of vegetables and 12-15 ounces of protein. Again, this isn't ideal, but we want to keep you on track as best as possible..

So, divide that into 6 meals a day, and VOILA - Medifast diet with the Medifast $$.

If you hang with us, you're more likely to keep your focus and not let yourself get out of control. Doing this without the convenience of the little white packets will take more planning and counting/keeping track, but there's lots of online tools to help with that, too. Here's a good one that I use:.

Okay, I was just re-reading the "rule post" and I have a newbie question...on your beginning stats should the "goal weight" be your overall goal weight or some interim goal that you personally set for the challenge period?.

I would like to join this challenge also. I just read all 8 pages and it sounds like a wise thing to do with lots of good people and good advice. I am in maintenance and learning every day what works for me. I am tech challenged and have no idea what some of the directions meant in Penny's first post. Can I just post here and not worry about the other things?..

Is your overall goal, not you goal for the challenge. It's OK if you can't figure out the banner, or don't want to 'fly' the banner - but we can teach you if you want..

Well, today is Sunday and I'm working. It's ok though. There's only 6 of us here so it's nice and quiet. Catching up here with you folks! I hope everyone is doing well! I sure do miss my friends!!!.

Welcome to all you newbies over here!!! I'm an oldie, I think. I'm not around nearly as often as I used to be or as often as I want to be. I'm in maintainance. Still living off of Medifast and real food. Now that I work here, it's cheaper to eat MF. LOL.



My new friend, and co-worker, just lost 25 lbs in 2 weeks!!! I'm going to try to talk her into joining us over here! She is doing so great!!!.

All the kids are off to school now. Even my LO. So precious! He doesn't cry anymore when I take him to school. Thank God. That was soooooo hard!.

What's new with me? Other than work, I was notified by marketing that myself and sunshinegirl are going to be interviewed and featured in Living Magazine in October. A journalist is supposed to call for the interview. They asked what would be a good time, as far as work is concerned... I told them anytime was probably fine, seeing as how it's advertisment for my job an all. LOL!!.

Anyway, just dropping in to say hello to you all!!!..

I would absolutely love to be a part of this challenge. I have been around since Thanksgiving of last year. In that time I have lost 90.5 pounds and have another 21.5 to go. I would love to make it to my goal by Halloween and being in a challenge just might give me the motivation to get those last 20# off!.

I'm back in this challenge for myself (petesweet) and friend Nancy (nancyanna). Bringing along another noncomputer friend, Mary Bird (I'll just call her bird for this challenge)..

I seem to be blessed with Medifast friends who do not come on the computer for one reason or another..

Some of you oldtimers remember Nancy's story, and I'll tell the others. She is legally blind and really does not have time to struggle through trying to read a lot on the computer, so I post for her. She is absolutely ACING this program. When I post our stats tomorrow, you'll see what I mean..

I'm going to brag a bit on my dear friend while I'm at it. As I said, she is legally blind and has been for a couple of years (although she still works). Just this month she learned that her limited eyesight is really getting much worse (macular degeneration). Ten months ago she could read the fourth line down in the eye chart. This time she could not even read the big "E.".

On top of that, she is caring for her blind, deaf, and completely bedridden mother, who will probably die before next week's weigh-in. Although we know she is going to Heaven, it is hard, of course. With that comes MAJOR family drama with one of Nancy's brothers who cannot accept the fact that extraordinary measures are not what Mom and Nancy and other brother know is best..

So has she stayed OP? Yes!!!! 100 percent through hospital stays, family drama, and her own medical disappointment. She is so close to goal she can taste it (and that is one taste that is definitely OP!!)..

Me? I'm in maintenance. Doing this just to help Nancy and Bird with the computer details and to give myself another layer of accountability..

I won't be reading all the comments. Wish I could, but I am beginning to feel the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome and am limiting my computer use..
