We must ask ourselves the questions and then plan a map to making our journey a successful journey..

1. Why are we here on the Medifast diet?.

2. How will we stay On Plan?.

3. Have we planned out our day, week, month or year knowing that there will be challenges ahead?.

So, let's take this week (in between the challenge) to reallhy focus on how we will all be successful on this journey of weight loss and to self awareness and SUCCESS!!!.

Wow, Nich, I had no idea you were going to participate in a 1/2 marathon. Running or walking or both? My hat's off to ya..

I desparately need to get re-focused. Today was the first day that I was 100% OP. I just gagged down egg substitute for dinner (not EggBeaters - maybe they taste better). I'd rather have real eggs, but was going for volume..

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Raining cats and dogs with lightening here in way Northern California..

Terri - believe it or not, I now prefer the taste of egg beaters over real eggs. Maybe there is a differnce between real 'egg beaters' and egg substitue. I do know you need to spice them up a bit. I like to add tarragon. And - you are not the only one who needs to refocus. I have definatley been in the season of 'fall' - right off the wagon!.

Nich - I'll take Wednesdays as my day of choice for me input to the boards. I'll find a nice inspriational quote to share....if Wed is already taken, just let me know and I'll change to a different day..

If you are struggling a bit, try to remember just how good you felt when you were successful, when you were 100% On Plan for a good stretch. You were full of energy, proud of your success and happily committed to a plan..

Think about why you are here, why you open those little white packets every day. Focus on that dress you want to wear on New Years Eve, on how nice it is going to be dancing with your significant other and feeling light on your feet as you do so..

You can do this.

Nich, I live in Redding - about 3 hours north of SF. We love it there. We just got my MIL tickets to see Beach Blanket Babalon for her 70th birthday. I think were going to turn it into a group event. Its still raining here this morning. I'm hoping my son's soccer practice will be canceled tonight.

I'm back on track! Need to drink my water, but it's cold here. I should run out and get some hot water from Sbucks..

Hi All You Red Hots....

Nich I am on facebook..just hooked up with my best friends daughter who I lost touch with and really miss... maybe this is a sign we can hook up again.....

Terri and Gail I so feel your off the wagon feeling... I am committing to myself to get back OP and start losing again... I have been at the same weight for too long......

My daughter is here from school and she wanted to eat at some of our favorite haunts while and here and I ate with her... not op of course.. I haven't gained anything yet but will soon if I keep this up....

Well, the garage sale was successful if I count that we got rid of everything... but not necessarily for money... a woman asked if she could have our leftovers for her church sale and took everything we did not sell...so that is done...now I seriously have to clean out my own house...I don't want anyone to have to go through my things like I have had to do for these two dear relatives.....

Hello Reds!.

Sorry I have been MIA. Sick kids again. Aaron has pneumonia. None of my kids has ever had that before, so that is a little worrisome, but we caught it early so are able to treat it at home. Aaron's pediatrician thought he probably had H1N1, and Sarah probably has it now, but it sure isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just the stuff that comes with it.

I hope everyone is doing okay. I have not been doing that great either and will be kicking my own butt back on the wagon tomorrow. Until then, have a good night!..

My recent NSV:.

I HAD to get new jeans this weekend. I need long jeans and found a pair of 14L on clearance for 7.00, then 50% off all clearance for a total of $3.75 for one pair of transition jeans! I would have bought another if they had more..

All my dress clothes are too big too! I wore an outfit yesterday and the pants were cinched up so much with my belt that it looked funny. Most of my smaller clothes were sent to goodwill, as I am not much of a pack rat. Now that will hurt me, because I had plenty of dress and casual clothes in 12 and 14. I am a 14 now at 180, my goal is to be a 10... not sure of the weight, I will have to wait and see where I fall...

Hello ladies!.

WooHoo!!! I did it FINALLY. I have nothing to say but I couldn't have done it without you ladies. I was sooooo tired of answering the question "how much weight have you lost?" with almost 20. Praise God!!! I also have a confession though. I made homemade whole wheat bread last night and ate 1/2 slice with my beef stew. My tummy hurt painfully bad.

OUCH! I sat back in the easy chair and just rubbed my belly for almost 2 hours. Serves me right for cheating when I've been good all week..

Went to YOGA Fat burn class this morning and it was 100% cardio fat burn. Kinda bummed about missing the YOGA because I love how stretching makes my body feel. Might try to squeeze in a YOGA class this evening. Do you think I'll send my body into hold mode since I've already sweated for 45 minutes?.

Dawn, I'm glad we'll be seeing you around here more. I have no idea regarding the other thread, but sorry you have to deal with such drama!.

I've gotta get off here. My boys are more interested in wrestling this morning than doing their math work! Hopefully it won't be one of those school days..

Other good news!!! DH bought another charcoal grill for $15 on sale. We live in the city and bought a $40 charcoal grill when we moved in. Someone took it a couple weeks ago and I was sure missing the grill foods. I had to get creative with cooking in the oven and on the stove, but no longer!..

Hi Red Hotties.

Welcome Christina I believe the challenge is the same as the last one which is to report at the end of the week how many days you were 100% on plan, drank your minimum of water and how much weight lost. We get points as a team for all of those items.. Nich can let you know if I missed anything....

I am off work today as I have to take my dd to the airport to get back to college... tears....I will miss her......

I will report more later, I am working out the details to add some exercise to our challenge... my plan is to add exercise each week that we can do at home without any special equipment....more to come....

Well - after having to pick up Jess again yesterday from daycare - she seemed just fine over the weekend - she has turned the corner. Both have made it the whole day at daycare today. We have open house for Jonah's Nursery School and Jess's Pre-School. They are just so excited to show off their stuff!.

I survived the dentist - need 2 crowns but no root canal's. Let see how much insurance will cover before we commit to that one!!.

Susan - exercise is what I need! 100% so far today - even with the stress of the dentist!..

Challenge will run from Oct 25/26 until Dec 6/7.

Example on how to report:.

For someone who's loss is 3lbs and stayed on plan and got all water, we'd report.

Weight: -3.

Water: 7.

OP: 7.

Challenge Rules:.

Minimum number of team members = 8; Maximum number of team members = UNLIMITED..

Actual Loss/Gain will be reported each week, per individual..

Points will be reported for consuming at least 64oz of water per day - max 7 points per week, per individual..

Points will be reported for On Plan each day, max 7 points per week, per individual..

Scores will be calculated on a percentage basis -.

For the Loss/Gain it is the amount lost relative to the previous week weightgains DO count.

For Water it is the points (0-7) reported relative to the maximum points allowed (7).

For On Plan it is the points (0-7) reported relative to the maximum points allowed (7).

WEEKLY SCORES - (weeks 1-6).

Accumulated percentages from the 3 categories will be added for each WEEKLY team score..

Scores for team members who reported in for the week are included..

FINAL OVERALL SCORE - (6 week accumulation).

Accumulated percentages from the 3 categories will be added for the final OVERALL team score..

This score INCLUDES ALL participants, dropped & MIA!.

Official weigh days are either Sunday or Monday of each week..

Team participants MUST report their stats (L/G), Water & On Plan to their captain.

No later than Monday at 11:59pm EDT. (Midnight Eastern Time).

Team Captains MUST turn their team stats in to.

No later than Tuesday at 11:59pm EDT (Midnight EASTERN TIME)..

If I have not received your weekly spreadsheet in my email Inbox by 6am Central time Wednesday morning, your TEAM WILL HAVE A ZERO SCORE FOR THE REPORTING WEEK..

It is YOUR responsibility to get your spreadsheet to me in a TIMELY manner..

Team Members may have one (1) absence..

The member is NOT counted during the week of their miss to calculate percentages..

Upon their 2nd absence, they are dropped and will NOT be counted in future weeks..

The missed weeks need not be consecutive for the team member to be dropped..

Dropped Team Members WILL be included in the final OVERALL results...

Hey, everyone..I am so excited about this challenge..I had a funny experience...I had a dream last night that I cheated...i had pizza and potato chips in my dream...i was so disappointed..then I woke up. so happy that it was a dream..I dont think I will ever cheat after that dream. if I felt that guilty in a dream I can only imagine how I would feel if I actually cheated. Its been hard staying on plan the past few days..staffing at my job has been awful and ive been mandated twice in 4 days. But I have been able to do it ..I just have two of my meals from the next day during the overnight..Well I am glad everyone is doing well and staying OP....

Hey Folks. I would like to be a part of your group. Feeling rather green as it has been 2 days on the plan. I would have to say 90% on plan needs to turn into 100% on plan. I am adjusting. I know that this will be a success story for me.

Would like to 'joggle" a 1/2 marathon this spring somewhere near my 40th birthday. I have signed up for a 5K in December. Will be great to have the weight off soon. I am syked, and glad to see that there is so much support here...

I'm finally coming out of my funk and have managed two entire days in a row OP!! I still want to eat with a burning passion sometimes so I've decided to take up a hobby to occupy my hands and my brain. I'm going to learn how to knit! I bought myself a learn to knit book and got everything home and realized I got the wrong sized needles and the wrong yarn. Oh well, tomorrow after working in Henry's kindergarten class I'll go to the store again. Hopefully, by tomorrow night I'll be knee deep into my first lopsided scarf!.

Yes..If someone calls out and they cant find a replacement you get mandated..its illegal to be mandated for 8 hours....after four you can leave but I always stay because I dont like leaving my coworkers short staffed.....

Williamj - welcome!!! We'll be rooting for you to get that marathon in. You'll be able to do it. The greeness with pass too. Hang in there..

Terri - I learned how to knit last year from a friend in Japan. I started with dishcloths because they solely use the knit stitch and increase and decrease. Your how-to book may be helpful, but I remember forgetting what my friend had taught me and looked up "how to cast on" on google. Lot's a video teaching out there and it is sooooo much easier to learn by watching/doing than from a book. I still knit quite a bit. Never leave home without my knitting bag.

I'm working on a Noro scarf for my DH at the moment. Most importantly is to have fun. If your scarf is lopsided on one side, make it lopsided on the other and know one will even look at it twice!.

Maria - Hang in there and keep your chin up. I'm sure you coworkers are glad you don't leave them high and dry..

I am trying to gear up for the challenge by knocking out all the BLT's now before monday. I have a lot of stuff in the mouth before I even realize it. Yesterday was a difficult day. I wanted to eat everything all day long. I ate veggies all day long just to stay away from what I really wanted to eat. I know it wasn't OP, but much less of an evil than my desired intake would have been..

- So happy to see that you have gotten rid of the funky funks!!! TOM or Aunt Flow as I like to call her has planted herself in my home this week, so I can totally relate to being in a funk girlie. Let's focus on how wonderful we will be looking next year when we reach our goal weight..

- Well, let's just say that your work situation sounds like it would be difficult to deal with some days. Are you paid overtime when you stay over?.


- I have to let you all in on a little secret, I have an appointment today with my Doctor for a procedure that will help with my weight loss. So, these past few days I've been totally open to this surgery and then today I woke up and was like.... "What the heck are you thinking Nich?" A week before the procedure I would have to be on Medifast or Optifast and for the first month I would have to be on Medifast or Optifast and from then on only eat small meals. Isn't that what I'm already doing? Crazy what our minds can tell us to do at times. So, I'm still going for the consult, but my thoughts are NO WAY am I going to actually go through with any of this..

I know that sticking to the plan works, we just have to stay OP and try our best to not go off. I hope that.

This truly looks like a terrific group - I just lurked and read some of the post and heck yeah I want to get to goal and lose this weight..

It will take me some time to get all the names straight but I will do it..


That was a great idea I liked your honesty about I need to keep my hands and brain entertained and to get into knitting. I think that's just what I need to keep my self busy and entertained and stop thinking about "food" and how miserable and lonely and how unsatisfying my relationship are. Cause in reality that is what has got me in this funk "my personal relationships"So if you guys would keep me I would love to join..

Nich - my brother just had gastric bypass surgery about a month ago. I considered it - that was until I saw the do's and dont's for after surgery. What to eat and amount to eat - all the vitamins and so on. I was looking to simplify my life - not complicate it so I said.....NO WAY JOSE! I can do this. I just need to get out of my own way!.

I think it's a great option for those who cannot make any program work and give people who do do it a great deal of credit. That is also a life time committment!..

BTW, we have the same goal weight (I changed my ticker to 180 this time around I wanted to see less on the other side of the ticker but my ultimate will be 170) and we are both Capricorn - how cool is that??..

Nich - I actually had a consult with my doctor about a year ago when I was despondent about my weight. I too was considering the lap band because I thought it wasn't as permanent as the GBS and I thought I could "undo" it later. My DR. told me he thought the lap band was worse than the GBS because they can slip and cause major internal bleeding. He said he lost a friend that way. He told me if I were going to do it I should just go w/GBS.

Throwing up and trying to find foods that they can tolerate. Their entire days are food focused which for the first time I find my days really are not as food focused with the Medifast plan. I've joined WW so many times that I've actually lost count. Someone today asked me which I preferred WW or Medifast and I immediately said Medifast which surprised them because with WW you do get to eat more. However, I found myself constantly wondering about what I could eat and how many points something was, blah, blah, blah! Now, I have five Medifast foods and something simple for dinner.

Just some simple protein and veggies - sauce on the side. I know I'm sounding preachy (weird considering last week I had to be talked off my ledge), but I actually find Medifast fairly easy to do once you wrap your mind around it..

Confession time - I haven't actually updated my ticker yet, but I will. After last week's carnage, I gained 2.8 pounds. My first gain since I began the program on 8/17, but I've already lost all of that AND MORE since my weigh in on Monday. I could never have done that on WW - if I put on poundage on that program it usually took me a couple of weeks to undo the damage. What I especially like about Medifast is that you can see results quickly. I can get discourage very quickly.

Enough said..

Olivia - I'm glad you told me about the knitting videos because I'm already stuck! I've casted on for one row, but I can't transition into the knit stitch. I was at my son's boy scout meeting this afternoon asking all the moms if they knit so someone could help me. No one knits..

Also, John, I have a chocolate shake w/starbucks coffee in it every night after dinner. I add one cup of ice and 1/2 cup of water so it's really thick and I eat it with a spoon. Its my dessert. YUMMY!!..

Nich - thanks for sharing with us, and I think you are doing the right thing. I've contemplated it, but have seen way too many complications to really go through with it. My brother was going to have lap band. The doc told him lose 40 pounds first. I thought to myself, if I can lose 40 pounds, then why get surgery. Medifast is working great and in time we will all see..

I can't wait for the challenge to start..

Terri - glad the internet video suggestion was helpful. Are you just knitting and not pearling? When you cast on ready for your first row, turn the work around and just knit, grabbing the yarn from the front, catch the finger yarn, bring it through and take the stitch off the left needle. Nich - way to go! I too did the initial appointment with a dr about gastric bypass. My sister had it last year, and it has been a life saver for her- she has lost 175 lbs, but we were all scared for her. My sister has not had any complications, but my neice also had it and has had a lot of trouble. Medifast is healthy and it works!.

Well, my kids' germs finally caught up with me. I am feeling somewhat better now, but had a rough day trying to take care of the kids. Aaron is perking up, too..

Yes I am back and feeling much better about myself. I know I have been gone for several weeks and I know some of you were a little concerened and I am glad that you checked up on me. I did get very sick and so were my kids. I of course went off the program during that time and then of course I felt like I needed to take a little break from it to get my strength and sanity back. Well here I am reporting in for the upcoming challenge. I started back on the program today and feel real good about it. I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

Nich- I am so glad you made the decision you did... My mom had GBP about 5 years ago... she lost over 100 lbs and looked great... yes I said looked... she has gained almost all her weight back... she still had stomach issues and now she is big agian....even with gbp you have to change your eating habits....

I have to say that today was hard trying to get back on track but I am determined to do it and I know in a few days I will be feeling great and losing weight... hey Medifast poetry....

You know I never understood that I truly believed that with Gastric bypass you would never regain the weight - to me that sounds crazy to have a surgery like that and to still be able to regain the weight - it goes to show if you don't stay vigilent it doesn't matter what you do - you will gain the weight back..

- Awww, the pumpkin patch sounds so nice. Can you remember your first time at the patch? I can remember taking a trip with my kindergarden class, getting off of the bus and racing to the pumpkins. I can remember how BIG those pumpkins were (or seemed at the time). I chose a little one because the others were out of control. Thanks for sharing and bringing back a sweet memory for me..


- So nice to see you back online my Red Hot friend. Glad that your daughter is doing better. Girlie, we can do this, let's really focus on getting to the goal line..

- Thanks for sharing about your family and gastric bypass, I would never cut an organ like that, but was thinking about the lapband because it does not change the inside of us. Medifast does work, I just need to find my focus and make it all happen..

- Thanks for posing the question about how we should run the thread. I think that a lot of folks come to the.

For the simplicity of our group. Some of the groups out there are really structured and strict. Lopez would be a good person to add input since she has moved around a bit..


- I will make it back to NYC just as soon as I reach my goal weight. There are too many temptations in that city. The biggest mistake I made when I was there was eating a slice of pizza it was so delicious and yummy nad we have no good places out here. This is probably a good thing and here I go talking about food. Would you take on a motivation day for us Lopez? While you were gone we called them daily Cheerleader days. Pick a day that you are available to kind of man the thread, you can start off with a topic or just with motivation, your choice..


I have been in communication with Jasmine via blackberry chat and she killed her computer. She will be in for the next challenge, so expect her to be in on this one. Nothing from Connie yet, still waiting for confirmation from her and a few more.



My vote is that we keep our thread easy but try to get members to.


A lot more (myself included). We can assign motivation days and come online as often as we can to help motivate one another. We could also have the usual things such as;.

Water wars, recipe share, meal accountability share and a biggest loser prize.

Or anything else that you all come up with, just let us know..

We NEED your input to make this challenge a success..

So far for daily cheerlearder/motivation/exercise guru's we have....

I would also like to keep the thread light and loose. I like that everyone just posts what's on their mind. Sometimes you can only do a drive-by post and it's nice to have the flexibility to just blurt out whatever is on your mind at the time..

I will do Mondays, I took Saturdays because I thought you had a dire need for someone on Saturdays but I have no problems with Mondays - In fact I love Mondays !! The best day of the week is Monday when you can start fresh..

I'm pooped. I wish I could go to be RIGHT NOW! My husband and I, along with some in-laws, attempted to play 18 holes of golf today. Its exhausting when you're a hacker. I don't know how people play 18 holes w/o passing out on the course! I'm sure once we're better it will get easier. I have over 8300 steps in the for the day though. Something to be happy about. Well - both kids made it through their first dental appt w/o any bad memories! Yeah...I don't know who was more nervous - mom or them. Probably me! LOL.

DH was in a rotton mood last night - he had a bad day but he did make dinner. Stuffed peppers and spaghetti. I did eat a few - and I mean few bites of spaghetti but the stuffed pepper was delish...the HE at apple pie - I had none! Sometimes you just have to keep the peace....

Yes It's me , you've probably forgotten about me since I've been gone for nearly 2 months. Not only have I been in Italy for a month but after I came back I fell of the band wagon completelyI was angry and embarrassed about that and that keep me away even more.........my emotions still have the best of me..

Then I heard from 2 of members of this AMAZING and CARING Red Hots team and that gave me the incentive to REFOCUS AND RECOMMIT !! I am so glad to be part of this WONDERFUL group of individuals , Thanks for having me!!.

I know we have some new Friends that I still haven't meet and plan to do so but I want to say HELLO to my old friends : Nich, Blanche, Gail, Susan, Jaz, John, Kristy , HOW HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN ??? Hello everyone..hope everyone is having a good day.I cant believe tomorrow my 4th week on medifast will end. I feel like it flew by but 23 lbs down am so happy with the results and with all the support I have here..Thanks to all.

Lopez..my job is very interesting..never a dull moment..my patients make me laugh..it can be stressful but for me it actually isnt because I'm very laid back and get along with my coworkers..also the patients love me I treat them with respect and validate their needs so I never have an issue when I work..It can make for a very stressful day when you have patients with mental health problems against u.....
