First of all How many of you have lost weight with Medifast Diet? Looking forward for any answer. My other question... Has anyone tried both this and optifast? Would you say this is about the same?.

I had an consultation today for OF and it is about as much for a week as this would cost me for a whole month! So I'm wondering if this would be worth the savings?.

Thanks...

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I discover an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could answer your Medifast question..

I too went for a consultation for Optifast. You are right the price is quite a bit more than Medifast. If I remember correctly from the consultation, you only eat their meals. On Medifast you not only get to eat their meals 5 times a day, you also get to eat the L & G meal of regular food. You learn to make good lean and green food choices. I think if I had gone on the other plan I would not have been able to adhere to the restrictions and would not have been as successful.

Good luck on whichever plan you choose...

Optifast is a full fast plan. There isn't much of a transition and no maintenance plan..

The fact that on Medifast you learn to eat one healthy meal a day and there are T&M plans makes a huge difference and a better recipe for success...

Just the cost alone is a no brainer. If you would think Medifast is expensive, then OF is out of this world costly if it's what you are saying it is. Yikes! Medifast has been a Godsend to me. I feel wonderful and wouldn't have lost 15.2 so far if it hadn't been for the plan. It got my head straightened back on...

I looked at Optifast when I was looking for a plan. I chose Medifast instead of Optifast. Medifast is less expensive and has a great track record not to mention all the research done with Johns Hopkins. In addition, the weight loss on Optifast is basically the same as MF. You will not lose any faster on Optifast. I know several people that did Optifast and their loss was not any faster than MF.

I like the fact that I can still have 5 Medifast meals and 1 L&G and still stay under 1000 calories. Medifast many more options than Optifast. It is hard to get bored with all the Medifast choices..

This is just my opinion and I wish you best of luck with the plan you choose...

I know 2 people who were on Optifast. One lost 100 lbs and the other 140 lbs. Both regained back the weight they lost and more after they ended Optifast. They did not learn how to eat healthy once they lost the weight and it seems like they both went crazy stuffing themselves with food once Optifast ended which can also happen on any diet if people go back to bad eating habits. I tasted the Optifast shake and soup once-I hated it..

No matter what plan we will try unless we commit to it and what happens after we lose the weight it will not work if you don't learn how to eat healthy and have changed the bad eating habits that made us fat to good habits that can keep us at goal weight. I am learning so much from Medifast. I look at labels on every food item and am shocked at the empty carbs in foods that one can sit and eat without thinking about it...

I have a good friend who has lost 64 pounds this year on OF. She looks great, feels great and is eating healthy small meals now. She is a MAJOR success story! She was the final motivating push to get me started on a weight loss plan..

However, she said that Medifast has many more food options and she basically had to make do with vanilla and choc shakes. She got the flavor drops to give them variety..

I love the Medifast variety. Bars, shakes, eggs, oatmeal, pudding, pretzels, cheese puffs, pancakes, LEAN AND GREEN choices galore! I love having such freedom to plan my L & G meal each day. If I need to go out to dinner with friends, I can get a grilled chicken salad and no one needs to know I'm on MF. My friend had to take her meal replacement with her each time..

We have three small kids and go out to eat alot between soccer games, etc. We go to Shane's Rib Shack for quick BBQ sandwiches and I can get really nice chopped chicken on top of lettuce greens. So easy..

In the end, it's a personal choice. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who need 100% food deprivation to make a life change. For me, though, the convenience and variety of Medifast in addition to the support on the message boards makes this a great choice..

If you do decide to go the OF route, she said that Facebook has some great OF support pages..

Good luck!..

I lost weight on Optifast and then gained most of it backbut I quit going before I got to the transition phase.

They actually do have a nice transition plan now-or the clinic I went to didbut I had some stressors in my life...and now I don't live or work close to the clinic anymore..

They are of course more expensive than Medifast, but you get a lot of one-on-one professional helponce a week, plus groups. Although I guess every clinic could be different..

The Optifast products have more calories and more protein than the Medifastat least most of the Medifast. They have about 160-170 cals per serving as opposed to 100-110 or so for Medifast, and 14 g protein, while most Medifasts have 11, although there are several with 14. Then you eat vegies and 2 tsp oilso I guess like the L&G without the L.

There is less variety in the meal replacements, as they call them, than on Medifast. They taste very similar..

I think it is a great program, but way more expensive; I've only been on Medifast a week, so can't say yet how the forums compare to having to go to the clinic at least once a week. But it is very convenient just being able to order the Medifasts over the internet!.

Whichever you do, don't skip the transition phase!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

Optifast, as stated above, is a full fast plan. The people I know who have done it gained back all the weight (about 100 lbs each) and more after they were finished..

Transition and maintenance are so important, whatever you do...
