My first question is Is Tahinis Sauce allowed in Phase 1 of the Medifast Diet? Looking forward for any response. Another question... Other topics will be discussed that may not be appropriate for the easily offended..

Please discontinue reading Tough Love threads if they are going to cause you to become upset..

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++.

Medifast is a wonderful program with many different types of support and a fabulous community. We understand that everyone is an adult and this is not a "mean" group. For some of us, we thrive on this program if we have a place where we are held accountable, where we commit to the program 100% and where we have a place to chat with others who feel the same..

What we believe:.

1. Cheating on Medifast is NOT a strategy to get us out of our fat suits.

2. The only way for us to learn about our problems with food is to take the word "choice" out of the equation when it comes to Medifast. Our only "choice" is 5 packets and 1 weighed and measured lean and green a day.

3. We look to those who have been successful with this strategy to continuously remind us about why this way, for us, is the way to go.

4. We believe that, even though we are completely committed, knowing that we have a group that holds us accountable for our actions is both useful and important.

We commit to:.

1. Remove the word "choice" from our vocabularies.

2. Follow the Medifast plan as written, including transition and maintenance.

3. Tell our "inner brat" to shut the H-E-** up and quiet him or her through abstinence from off plan foods.

4. Give and receive tough love without complaining or calling each other "mean".

5. Cheerlead fellow group members as they follow the path to thinness.

6. Make Medifast the LAST diet we ever go on.

7. Check in with the group as often as our schedule reasonably allows.

8. Be honest with ourselves and our Medifast family and to stay 100% OP at all times. We also swear that WHEN (not if) we are having a tough time and feel like we may eat SLUDGE, to come to our Medifast family first and ask for support and help to get us through the struggle..

Getting the banner:.

We accept anyone who follows the Medifast plan 100% as written, but not limited to, the Quick Start Guide. We recommend participating on the team for 1 week prior to requesting the Tough Love Banner to ensure that compliance to our bylaws is do-able for you..

Anyone can start the thread. If youre the first one here in the morning, copy this opening post and create a post for the new day. Anyone is welcome to join, and if folks have additional ideas on how we can commit, we are happy to hear them!..

Anna, congratulations on the house! So nice to have that to look forward to!.

I slept pretty well last night once I GOT to sleep. that took awhile. But, thankfully, there were no cramps. I feel almost caught up on sleep this morning. My back is a little sore this morning around the injection site, but they said that's normal..

Off to find breakfast and make lunch... oh yeah, and grab another Komodo Dragon...

Morning Tough Lovelies!.

WeLcOmE HoMe ANNA!! LOVE the pool. You are so right - that would certainly be the best part of the house for me too. I would live in that thing. CONGRATULATIONS!!.

Penny - so glad the injection went well. I'm completely surprised you were able to drive but glad you made it home safely and got a good night's sleep! Wonderful!.

Hi Melissa! Hi Debra! I Barb!.

I'm just ecstatic. Today is my official WI day and I was 214.9, so that's down FIVE POUNDS from last week! Woo Frickin Hoo!! Nice way to end 16 weeks on MF. I also went ahead and included my pre-MF weight on my ticker so I'm claiming the entire 77 lbs (not just the 67 on MF). It feels right, as long as I'm clear in my siggy that I lost the first 10 prior to MF..

SOOOO, I have now lost MORE weight than I have LEFT to lose! I've lost 77 and only have 74.9 left to goal. I feel like I'm just bouncing off the walls with happiness. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. I could not have done this, or done it even half as easily without your support and this "safe haven" from the wheaters and SLUDGE talk. Having a safe place and all this tough LOVE, mean the world to me..

I worked all day and had an evening meeting till after 9pm, so I never got back here yesterday. Hope all is well with everyone. I have another big day so don't know if I'll have a chance to stay caught up throughout the day..

Oh, yesterday I had a meeting with a colleague at the health department, and we had scheduled 1.5 hours. I suggested we make it a walking meeting and she jumped at the chance. We walked probably two miles over about 45 mins - and then had lunch together (me with my Medifast puffs - YUM). I have no doubt we got a lot more done while walking than we would have while sitting. And I lost 1.5 lbs overnight. Walking Works!.

Tkd, kris,.

WAY TO GO! Awesome job, ladies. Keep it up..

Hi to everyone else and welcome newbies...coffee is just kicking in so that's all the tofu I have for today..

I have resolved that today is my official Tough Love day at home. I am kicking butt and taking names around here! Two of my three little boys have decided that listening to Momma is low on their list of priorities and I am NOT taking it any longer. School has been ineffective this week as a result, I've been discouraged and not careful with my portions and salt, etc. so the scale went UP this morning (somewhere under .5...my scale only registers .5 increments). My own lack of focus is directly related to having to be on the boys 24/7 and I am ticked about it! Everyone, including myself, is getting the Tough Love speech today! Take responsibility for your own actions and choices and own the results...which for a couple of little boys will be a loss of major privileges until they get a grip. DH is home and acting as "principal" today as well, so we are a united TL front!.

So there! Take that, you cute little whipper-snappers!.

Have a great morning, stay tough and OP and enjoy the last vestiges of spring!..

I made it through my trip downstairs without having to enlist the help of Forky. A few nasty looks later, I'm back up here. Don't know why I got the looks. Perhaps because I stood up for myself? Just got my new clothes washer delivered! The old Kitchenaid one tanked and was going to cost $400 to fix at 16 yrs old. The repair guy kept begging us not to replace it, saying you couldn't buy such a good one anymore and that we'd not be happy with the way the new ones cleaned. We waffled, but ultimately bought a new Whirlpool Cabrio. It had to happen eventually, anyway...that thing wasn't going to last forever! In the process of removing the dryer to get the washer in, the tubing for the dryer vent came apart inside the wall. Our house is 70+ yrs old, the walls are plaster, the dryer must move over slightly and the laundry is upstairs, so this is kind of a big deal. A grumpy DH is on a big ladder outside trying to figure out how to replace the tubing without cutting into the plaster!.

I'm just happy, happy, happy that I have a new washer! Mount Washmore was getting ridiculous around here!.

The butt-kicking, Tough Love, no TV day is having a positive effect already! Starting to feel more in control again and I LIKE IT!..

Congrats on the new washer. If it was a Maytag, I'd still be fixing it, but a Kitchenaid? Not so sure. Still, have to agree, they don't build them like that any more...

answered Apr 29 at 04:34

's gravatar image

It's a risk for sure. The Kitchenaid one we had was top of the line and was really awesome, but we've already put so much money into it that we couldn't see doing it again. Also...we've had a twin get stuck headfirst in the Kitchenaid drum between the wall and the agitator (he was after a lost Bakugon!) and we had to take the washer apart to get him out! The new ones don't use an agitator, so safer all around! And, yes, I do think the twin would do that again...he's that kind of kid!..

I'm about to throw wrenches and bolts and quickset cement in my washer so I have a reason to get a new one that can hold more than 2 thongs and a half a sock. I hate my dinky washer. But with 50 other household projects lined up ahead of it (and who knows how many things on the bring of legitimately breaking), I'm stuck with PeeWee the Wonder Washer 'til he gives out on his own..

Today improved greatly, thank goodness. And I've finally staggered out of my mental fog..

Just popping in to say, again, how much you gals keep my head in the game...

Ohh no, they definitely do not. My mom had her washer & dryer for 24 years (Whirlpool) and the dryer went, so she decided to upgrade and get a new pair. Her thinking... the washer is bound to go soon too, it's old and she had it since she was first married, so she was replacing them. She bought Maytag.... I think she's gone through a set of 5 in 4 years.

Thank goodness she hasn't had to pay for them - they keep replacing them, but it's horrible! She wishes she never gave up her beloved Whirlpool ones. They break things to break down these days to turn a bigger profit and it's cheaper for them. Humph!..

Good morning (actually afternoon by the time I finished typing this), everyone! I made a great discovery regarding coffee: I just put a tablespoon (half a condiment) of Torani sugar-free vanilla syrup into my coffee, and it's SO DELICIOUS. Way better than when I was adding a packet of Splenda AND milk, using up two condiments. I'm so excited for this discovery. I've really tried to like black coffee, but I just can't, so this is a much better solution than the one I had before..

: I'm actually majoring in sociology (and French). The psych class is because our sociology department is so small that you can take classes from sociology, religion, psychology and philosophy to fulfill the major. Just one of the many reasons I loooove my major..

Thanks again, everyone, for the encouragement about the job prospects. Given that my student loans start accruing interest in June, and my parents aren't helping me with that, I'm very nervous about money at this time. (I might have to stop getting MF, but that's a different matter.).

I know how you feel about salt,.

, and I feel the same way! As for the portions, I did weigh them and knew they were over a bit. I was distracted by the boys' behavior and didn't remove the additional portion right away...thinking I'd do the math in a minute. Then, after they were so bad, I forgot and ate everything on the plate. My fault, totally, but I wanted to sell some children after that!.

I was also a sociology major! I had a sneaking suspicious that you were a soc major, since so many of them tend to take those psych classes near the end!.

I went on to get my masters in social work after getting a year's work experience, then I got my license and was an LCSW (now temporarily "retired!" Though, to be honest, I use my degree more with these kiddos than I did when working outside the home!). I administered children's public mental health programs for a long time, worked in juvenile delinquency/gang intervention for a while (was a therapist/probation officer...weird combo!), then ended my career directing a non-profit adoption agency that I started (as a branch of a national) in my spare bedroom..

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get started in the field! You do sometimes have to take crap jobs to break into things, but it gets better from there. It's a very fulfilling field and you'll do fine. If you intend to go the social work, counseling, community organizing or criminology route...plan on getting that masters if you want to support yourself long term!.

If you are going more towards urban planning or another more political track, you may have better luck with salaries, but they will still top out a little low without a masters...

Hey, everyone. I had SUCH a crisis just now in psychoanalysis... I'm very sad. I started drinking my iced tea without checking the label because I was thirsty and talking and just not paying attention... then I discovered halfway through (after drinking a WHOLE serving) that it wasn't diet! So I just ingested about 80 calories, 21 carbs, and 21 sugars... unbelievable.

Someone tell me that it's going to be okay and that I didn't totally mess myself up with something this stupid....

I logged it, and of course my carbs are around 110 for the whole day. GRR!.

(and sorry for misspelling your name before) that's awesome! I actually don't know if I want to go into social work. I might get my grad degree (probably Master's) in criminal justice or linguistics. If you do have any sociology research contacts, I'd love to hear about those! I would really love to get a sociology-related job, rather than something menial to get money while I apply to grad school...

What's funny is that I'm usually SO paranoid about labels for this reason I usually check my Diet Mountain Dew about 20 times (no exaggeration) to make sure it's DIET Mountain Dew..

Thanks for the tips. I don't have a choice about the L, but for the G I'll make sure I have low-carb veggies...

Where are you? Eastern seaboard somewhere, right? PM me if you don't want it on the board. I don't know if I have anything brilliant for you in terms of research contacts, but I have a few ideas. I also know a few people who will have a few ideas! Most of my personal contacts are in TX (just moved to NC three years ago) but I have relatives in academia and professional friends up and down the east coast that I can check in with...

I did that the other week at a cafeteria where the fountain sodas were out and all they had available were cans. Sierra Mist and Diet Sierra Mist look pretty much identical when I don't have the right glasses, and I misread 'caffeine free' as 'calorie free' somehow. With MediMouth all I can taste is sweetness 24-7, so I had no clue from the taste that it was HFCS..

Luckily, I caught it quickly, but I was still mad about wasting those calories and carbs. Funny how quickly we start to recognize when something is a waste of calories once we're on Medifast for a while..

Have something like lettuce and simply cooked fish or chicken for dinner and call it a wash...

It's like buying a car.. hope you don't get one built on a Friday! LOL Both my washer and dry are ancient. I will have to replace the dryer, it uses too much electricity and it's hard to get parts. The washer is an old Maytag back when they built them indestructibly. I expect to die before the washer does. When I get around to buying the new dryer, I'll be lucky as to who goes first. That's my take on it...

Dinner tonite, listed for accountability reasons: Strictly weighed and measured portion of baked salmon with zucchini, sliced thin on a mandolin and sauted in a spray of EVOO. Doused in salt for Freya, but not as much as yesterday! I did have some G overage since I'd needed to cut more zucchini to account for cooking, but I doused it with cold water so I'd not go back and eat any. Not going near turnip fries for a while!.

Easter sludge has descended upon my house and I am not eating ANY! Brownies all the way as a substitute. Had one for breakfast and felt decadent! DH got a smoker today, so instead of the usual Easter dinner sludge-fest, we're doing home-smoked brisket and smoked turkey breast, with a green salad. Yum!..

What do you ladies think about lowering goals? Anybody been there, done that? I'm thinking about lowering my goal from 118 to 110. Before anyone says that is too low at age 43 (and it may indeed be too low), I am a relatively petite 5'2" with a small to medium frame. I do have, ahem, ample girls, so I have to account a bit for that but the rest of me wants to be tiny..

Until MF, I've always believed that I was genetically cursed to be plump, since I come from a line of short, fat Italians! Now...I'm not so sure. I remember looking fairly awesome at 110 in college and pretty great at 118 when I got married (age 26). At my current 131, I think my apple-shaped frame is looking good in the legs, arms and non-existent butt, but my waist and tummy need work. Vastly improved, of course, but still in need of work. So, my dilemma is really how far do I want to push this and what do I use as my criteria to stop? I plan on getting to goal and then working with my natural athlete DH to get into great shape, hopefully for the rest of my life. The ultimate number on the scale after I get in shape isn't the biggest deal as long as it is below 120...I expect to gain muscle weight after I start working out.

Not healthy to carry pudge there, not to mention that if clothes fit in the waist, they bag in the butt and legs....

So, how did you set your goal and how did you know if you were "there?" 118 is the goal Medifast defaulted to for me...

Jennifer - What your goal ends up is totally up to you. Just remember to pick a weight that you are confident you can maintain. It doesn't make sense to lose until you are CWT, only to gain some of it back in t&m..

I honestly think that you need to wait until you are closer to the goal you have now to see how things are going. To do it now is a little premature. 8 lbs at the end can make a HUGE difference in your appearance, and you may find as you get closer to goal, that you might be perfectly happy at 118...

Jennifer - also bear in mind that some of what you're carrying in the tummy will be extra skin. It'll take time and exercise to get that all happily redistributed..

I'm 5'2" and I'm thrilled to be 133-135!!! I can't imagine what kind of a stick I'd be at 118. Yikes!!! But then, I like my curves...

I completely missed that one! Thought you were in the D.C. area for some reason. Oh, well...either way, I'll ask around and see what pops up. ROTFLOL! That's pretty funny and now your comments make a whole lot more sense! No, I don't want to be CWT under any circumstances...too hard to maintain and not necessary. Just want to be the best I can be and not settle for less that I can do. I CAN see gaining muscle weight in T/M but I want to call goal at a place that is reasonable to maintain. I have a life, ya know?..

Well, there's the Chicago school of sociology, after all. I'm not thrilled about the idea of staying in the midwest, but if this is where the experience-gaining jobs are, I will put up with it..

You know, the main thing I've heard about Wheaton is that the food is the best in the country. What do you think about that?..

I originally set my goal for 158. I started at 246 pounds. 158 was the highest weight I could be and have a healthy BMI. When I started, I couldn't imagine getting there. It seemed like SO far away. Then I got to 158.

I was in fat burning heaven (thank you for being 100% On plan and on transition plan). When I got to 138 (I fluctuate up and down 2 pounds from here), I changed my goal to 148. My thought is that I will never weigh more than 148. Truth be told, I will never buy bigger clothes, this is a great incentive! My goal really is the top of my range. I am well under that.

My doctor is happy. I am happy. I am not killing myself trying to maintain..

So I guess what I am saying, see where your body levels off. A place that is easy to maintain with your lifestyle. Give it some time..

Hope this helps!..

Thanks, dear! I feel awesome. I mean, I have this blobby belly, but losing more weight won't fix that. Time and abs work would improve, but not eradicate, my "situation." And I Will. Not. Lose. More.

Not now, not ever. Forget it. That's off the table. *grump*.

De, thanks for the laugh about CWT. That's hilar...

Wheaton as in the college or the town? I'd personally have to say no on both counts...I wasn't impressed with the cafeteria, but it's been 22 years! However, there is some particularly good Italian sludge available in both Wheaton and Chicago that I ordered a few times a month! Chicago, on the other hand, has every kind of food imaginable from every kind of ethnic group around. I tried just about all of it! That, and some weird stuff with my little buddy in the Cabrini Green projects, before they bulldozed the place!.

I loved Chicago and seriously considered staying, but looking back now am very glad I did not. It was exciting as an 18-22 year old, but I think the bloom would have quickly been off the rose if I'd stayed much longer...

Yes, it does. And, I think that what my doctor thinks should be more important than what I think. I'm due to go see her soon, and she doesn't know yet that I've lost ANY weight. She's been on a six month maternity leave. She's pretty levelheaded and knows my home situation well, so she may be a more objective judge than I. Oh, and she's one skinny little thing, too.

Makes me feel a bit over the hill!..

Hi Everyone!.

It took me an hour to read every post and of course, now I've forgotten what everyone's said! Thank you.

For posting the note for me - am now completely blocked from getting on the Medifast site and sadly, my boss won't be back until Thursday - and I have no idea if he'll take an action on it or not. WW is approved, so I do have a chance..

SO GLAD it's my Friday, I hope it's nice out tomorrow - lots of stuff to do to get ready for dd's birthday on Saturday and Easter on Sunday..

De, Penny, Tara, and Cheri.

Let's talk about the rusty fork. Don't you think it's possible - just possible that the stabbing of someone with a rusty fork will not advance your cause? Perhaps we could discuss other ways of how to deal with challenging people without KILLING them, ok? OK? Ok. Let's all take a deep breath and come up with creative and fun ways to annoy the sh*t out of these people without causing blood shed. For example, I think crazy glue could be used in all sorts of interesting ways... please discuss..

MT, Debra, Tara, Kris, Jennifer, Deidra, lisa, Freya and Sassy.

I got all excited about melting away, and then it turned out I wasn't melting away, except Dh thinks I AM melting away. Someone here is right..

You know, I really love MF. But I really hate how much those medifarts stink. I'm with Lisa - this is not a good thing. I think I need to lay off the bars and see if that helps. P.U.!!!!.

Well, at least I have access to the site until Monday..

Coffee is on my lovelies!.

I am SO happy to be back home and back here and back to my non stressful (mostly) life. Welcome to the plethora of new people I glimpsed while typing on my phone for a week!.

We have a rental house and the best feature is pictured in this messsage.

Forget that the rent is more than my mortgage and the house is smaller than mine. It has great schools so I can't complain.

I came home and weighed in at 174.2, making me less than 10 lbs from goal. I was 176.8 when I left so 9 days and 2.6 lbs!.

I have to drive my friend to her plastic surgery today so I'll try to stop in after that.
