My question is POLL: Do you know what Nutrisystem looks like? Shes never in her own commercials? Thanks for any answer or 2. 2nd question I got is.. So last week (I weigh in on tuesdays) I weighed in at 346 and had gained a pound. Why? Diet didn't change. I was 100% on Nutrisystem the whole time. Only one thing changed.

I was falling into the old trap at about 2-3 cans of it a day.

So last Tuesday I poured out all the Diet Pepsi I had. All down the sink..

Oh you horrible tastey brown liquid! HOW YOU TAUNT ME!.

So this last week I stuck with Nutrisystem 100%. Weighed in this morning. I am such a loser! 338 - 8lbs this week! WOOT! So I am still on my track of 3-4lbs every week..

The moral of the story? Resist the diet soda!.

Thanks NS!..

Hi All Haven't posted in a long, long time and just got back on the program a week ago. Lost 5 lbs the first week back and have about 25 more to go....

The Diet Pepsi issue I am not convinced that the Diet Pepsi caused your stall. The Nutrisystem program indicates that coffess, teas, diet sodas are AOK to drink. I am certain they have researched this before stating that their okay..

Isn't it entirely possible that you hit a plateau for a week? I remember when I did this previously that I could do everything exactly to a T and by the book and some weeks, and even a couple in a row< were a bust...no weight lost. I did not pin that on diet soda.......

I can only speak for my experience. After what I saw I will not be drinking it again. On occasion I may have one here and there. But no more than once a week...

Thank you....

I've been stalled and sort of frustrated about my lack of progress. While some of it has been bad choices in off plan eating...some of it may have been the three Diet Sodas a day. I think I'll ditch them for now and see if that helps me get back on track...

One thing I didn't mention here. Not just the weight gain but I was feeling like I used to. Run down - tired - I even had a panic attack. I haven't had one of those since starting Nutrisystem back in Jan. I am thinking it may be a personal thing. The soda just doesn't work with me. Diet or otherwise...

I've read that the fake sugars used in products like Splenda and Sweet in Low (I'm a big Sweet n Low fan) can spike insulin levels and actually make your metabolism all wacked out. More than sugar itself..

I think SF Fan may be on to something. I'm trying to cut out as much artificial sweeteners as I can in my diet (as much as I can anyway but things like Sugar Free jello and Sugar Free whipped cream are staying) to try and avoid this as much as possible...

Here's an article from Wired magazine.. the main idea of the article not saying necessarily that fake sugars make you gain weight itself, but by eating more (unrelated to OP's situation).

However, I think this excerpt may deal with the metabolism issue I was referring to earlier:.

The problem appears to be one of metabolic regulation: when rats ate sugary yogurt, their core body temperature rose, ostensibly to take advantage of a calorie-rich nutrient source. But when rats ate the saccharin-sweetened yogurt, their body temperatures rose only slightly, and they ate more and gained more weight than their counterparts..

JMHO..

It could actually be two things....

1) the amount of sodium in the pop..

2) drinking pop in place of water. Nutrisystem will tell you that pop is fine, but you still need to consume 64 oz (or more) of water. If you only drink pop, you may be missing out of the water, which your body uses to flush the fat as well as decide if it needs to retain water for your health..

WATER is that important (both during the losing and maintenance phases!.

What is considered high sodium for a soda? When I have a soda I generally drink diet dr. pepper which has 55mg of sodium in a 12 oz can. Is that alot?..

I drink AT LEAST three diet dr. pepper's a day (usually 2 20oz bottles and then a can or two at home) and i've kicked 270+ pounds to the curb. I also drink between 160 - 300 oz of water a day too..

55mg isn't really a lot if you are drinking the minimum 64oz of water a day. I really think it's just like everything else - find what works for YOU..

I know soda (diet and especially regular) isn't good for some people and it doesn't hurt others..

Hi Joely!.

I was just reading the other day in Men's Health that the FDA looked at 110 different studies on sucralose (Splenda) and decided to approve it since none of them noted any ill effects from using it. And the only studies that have even had an inkling of problems with it were funded by the sugar industry...

I think water is key for consistent loss and if you're drinking diet soda, you probably aren't drinking as much water. I cut way back on diet coke and only have 1 cup of coffee - after the caffiene withdrawal, I've been much better just drinking water...

I guess if you can kick the diet soda to the curb and not miss it than that is a good thing. But, then there are those of us who enjoy our diet soda too much to do that. What I've done during my losing days as well as now during maintenance is only grab a diet soda when I've finished my water for the day. (And I get my diet soda everyday!.

).

Just my two cents...

Lol, True. Never really ever gotten into diet soda, i've only tried it about 3 times in my life I hate the taste, if I see diet on anything soda I run away, I barely drink soda, more into fruit juices, but if I wanted a soda, I usually go for the real thing, will try and give the diet soda stuff a chance, maybe I could grow to like it...

Totally agree! My advice (if you want it, of course!) is not to drink diet soda at all but if you are going to drink it, don't do it at the same time you are eating food. The rationale: Since insulin is lipogenic (causes the storage of fuel into fat cells), it is best not to do it when there is food in your stomach. You are essentially turning a low-glycemic index food into a high one by causing your insulin to go up just when you don't want it to. This obviously defeats the purpose of eating low glycemic foods. The insulin will aide the absorption and deposition of caloric sources from the gut into the fat cells...

This may not apply to everyone, but I can say with certainty that Diet Coke has horrible effects on me. I have been to the emergency room with heart attack like symptoms at least five times. I finally came to the conclusion - by stopping my consumption of Diet Coke - that the cause was in the soda. As long as I don't drink it I don't get palpitations, dizziness, headaches, chest pains, etc. So, for me - it's off the menu...

If Im going to eat 2000 cals in cheeseburgers why add in the soda too. Besides I always got up for seconds on the soda so why keep adding more cals. We decided to just eat them instead of drinking them lol...

Your quote is excellant, Juniper. I've read a lot about it at.

(supersite forums) and in books like Nutrition Timing by Dr. Ivy et. al..

The inorganic compounds in most diet soda cause the body to slow it's metabolism, become dehydrated, hungry, and go into fat cell retention mode..

If this sounds like something you want when you have to lose a bunch of body fat, by all means, keep drinking diet sodas, folks..

Having said that, one or two diet sodas a week won't hurt someone who stays hydrated properly and eats properly, and works out with some form of resistance training...

Well I'm new on this system (4th day here) and I've found this thread really informative. Thanks!! I'm concerned about quitting diet sodas because whether it's diet or regular soda, I've drank it and continue to drink it because of the caffeine. I've tried caffeine free versions and it's not cutting it so I know it's the caffeine. Has anyone else had reactions as you're going off the diet soda initally?..

I usually have to wean myself off of it. You really can't do it cold turkey if you are drinking a lot of it. What I did that seemed to work the best was substitute one caffeine free drink for one regular for a few days or so, and then substitute two and so on to kind of fake myself out. Then once I go through the withdrawl I started subbing in more water..

I don't drink coffee, so the coke zero is my morning caffeine, but I really do need to get off of it..

Now, I have a 32 oz cup on my desk that I filled to the top with ice, and then put the coke zero. That way I end up drinking only one can in a 12 hour shift, but I drag it out so I don't get the headache. If I have the am one, and then nurse this one thru the shift, I'm good. I try to stop all caffeine about 4 hours before the end of my shift...
