How did you all come to the profession you are in? I find it interesting how people get into.

Helping others.

It can be a grand opportunity, or it can be hell! Sometimes, most times, both in one day!.

One interview with the U of Fla Dean of Nursing convinced me I should be a counselor and not a psychiatric nurse...The road not taken.....

PS, way more fun than L&D! Not as many whiney young people having babies that shouldn't be! HAHA! I thought I always wanted to be a midwife, then I did my L&D rotation in.

School.

And didn't like it!..

Ricky, I always wanted to be a nurse from a little girl on up. I always said I read too many Cherry Ames.

Books.

As a kid. LOL! Many of you probablly don't know who Cherry Ames is, but I had all the.

Books.

From Cherry Ames student nurse to Cherry Ames nurse at Spencer and all the ones in between!.

I graduated with a BSN in nursing from York College of PA in 1987. I worked on a resp floor for 2 years. Then went into Critical Care where I worked most of my 23 years. I worked in various parts of the country and in various units, mostly surgical and cardiac units. I took care of open heart adult and pediatric pts as well as neuro, caridac, and medical critical care pts. I briefly worked in Homecare and Hospice when my kids were babies and I found myself a single mom.

It's hard to work night shift and take care of babies! I ended up a manager in a critical care unit and hated being a manager. The staff was much harder to deal with than the pts were! So, I began looking at options and ended up back as a staff nurse in the cath lab. I love the cath lab. I have enjoyed everything I have done in nursing (except the management stuff). I never once wished I had done something different.

I love what I do and I am proud to be a nurse!.

Laura..
