Can anyone help to explain the ketosis process...how long does it take to get into ketosis? how will I know if I'm in ketosis? how do I kick myself out of ketosis? what do I do if I get kicked out of ketosis? any warning signs? ANY HELP???.. |

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I find an anything. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could answer your Medifast question..

I get a sweet taste in my mouth - that's how I know i'm in ketosis...

You can buy urine test strips at most pharmacies. They have ones that check for glucose and ketones. I always know because I'm not hungry at all, my wife says that my breath has a metallic smell, and I have gobs of energy...

You can buy the test strips, but for most people on MF, they are useless. The state of ketosis Medifast produces is so mild that the amount of ketones in the urine don't register on the stix for most people..
I have to second what dilligaf said: you know you are out of ketosis if you're eating off plan!.. |

Ketosis is simply the process where our bodies burn fat. For a normal person, not on a diet, this process can occur many times a day..
For those on MF, the claim is that you are put into a mild state of ketosis. There really is no such thing. Your body is either in ketosis or not. When you test with a strip, you're basically reading the amount of ketones in your body, but for the most part, you will be in ketosis on this plan.. How do you get knocked out of ketosis? Dont stay on plan.. BTW. I dont think wanting to know more about the process makes it "more difficult" to follow, as was implied above. Knowing the science is pretty fascinating... |
|
The point was not that it makes it more difficult to follow, but that it's not neccersary to understand everything to make it work. If a person wants to know all the science then great, if a person just wants to rip the tops of the packs, mix eat amd go, well that's fine as well..
As with everything it's all about choice, and everyone has a free choice in how approach things.. |

There certainly is a difference between being in a 'mild' state of ketosis and a severe state of ketosis..
Severe ketosis causes blood pH to drop below 7.35.. I don't think the other poster meant that educating oneself about Ketosis was adding more difficulty.. I have none of the symptoms associated with being in a mild state of ketosis and I never use strips because they aren't accurate while tettering in a mild state of ketosis. If anything, I would stress myself out worrying about it all the time. I simply follow the diet as written and lose each week. Some weeks are better than others but the weight is consistently coming off.. Good luck. You can read all about Ketosis on this site... |
