Question I have... What is the BEST, most effective brand of Medifast to buy? Thanks for any answer or 2. Another question I got... Okay... I need advice.... 18 days post op here....

I've been taking things extremely easy since.

Surgery.

, and I do mean EASY. Absolutely no lifting, carrying, tugging, pulling, etc, etc. I don't think I've ever in my adult been this lazy, even after having previous surgeries..

I have no fever. I have no problem getting liquid in, and I'm eatting soft/pureed foods (very mild, basic things) to get my protein in. My pouch seems to be doing well, with the exception of protein shakes, which come out almost as they go in... All in all I thought I was doing well.... I had my 2 wk ckeck-up last Friday and the surgeon was pleased..

I've had pain all along, but as everyone had said, it would ease a bit. It was beginning to be more of a "nuisance" type pain like if I turned a little too fastAnd it did... until Friday, AFTER I left my doctor's office. It seemed more uncomfortable that evening, but not unbearable. (It's in the area of the largest incision, and my doctor had even said it'd be a bit before it would heal through.) So Saturday I was a little more aware of the pain than I had been in the previous couple days, and Sunday it seemed to have become painful in a larger area. Today it's been horrible.

I haven't found a comfortable position at all today that helps it to ease up... and it hurts.... alot.... I hoped a nice warm shower would help ease it, but it didn't..

Hubby said to say the word and we're off to the Emergency Room, but I'm really stubborn about going to the ER.... I'd rather wait and call my Team in the morning....

Again, no fever or any indication whatsoever of an infection. What could possibly be going wrong this far out??? Has this happened to anyone else? Is it anywhere near normal for the pain to increase like this before it gets better???.

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I discover an useful answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could help you..

Yea call the surgeons office now. I have a nurse who is on call 24/7. But the practice has to have a 24 emergency call line, so call them and let them guide you, but if you are in pain 18 days post op I would go to the hospital..

Best of luck and keep us updated! Sending prayers your way..

Any number of things could be happening. Stop being stubborn and get in and be seen. Would it be worse to go in and find that it's nothing or to not do anything and have it be something fatal?.

Hope.

That kind of puts it into perspective..

Well, you know what I did. My pain got worse, and called 911. They found my spleen was bleeding. I didn't do anything rough that day either, I just took it easy, as if I have a choice. LOL.

It was out of the blue and BAM.... here's some pain. Had I not gone, I would be dead now. If the pain gets worse, instead of better, call..

I am not out of the worrying stage and by all means, only 4 days behind ya, but you are right.... this stinks. I pray it gets better for us both..

Please go get checked out. It may be nothing - everyone is different - and this may be within your 'normal'. I'm somewhat skeptical of that however because pain should not increase after 18 days..

In general, GBS patients must take abdominal pain seriously. Do not be hesitant to get this checked out. Even if there is no fever, you still should have the docs take a look...

Ack!.

Call your team now and for heavens sake DO NOT PUT PEROXIDE ON ANY OF YOUR WOUNDS!!! I am speaking as a sports medicine minor and medical assistant- Peroxide can dry out your incisions causing them to tear, take longer time to heal, and scar tremendously and possibly open it to new infection!.

Call call call and don't put ANYTHING other than water from the shower or saline on those wounds!!..

Call your surgeon right now. If s/he's not on call, s/he should have another bariatric surgeon covering. There could be any number of things going on. But one thing I know for sure as a nurse, post-op pain gets better hour-by-hour & day-by-day. When it suddenly gets worse your body is telling you something is wrong and needs to be attended to immediately...

Could be a localized infection... I had that in my largest incision, no fever but had pain, and around the incision was really warm. I saw my surgeon and it was infected, the incision drained and the pain went away but it took weeks for the incision to close..

T pain is all relative if it frightens you than call otherwise just use common sense. Only you know!.

As for the nausiance sp try over the counter.

Prilosec.

Or.

Prevacid.

That weak stomach feeling will be gone in 2o mins..

Jus sayin Lu.

The first month is survival. Just do the best you can. Don't get knotted up with all the requiements the first month, just survive..

As for protein shakes. I'm a year out and I'd rather drink strictnine sp!.

Jenn- I sent you a message but wanted to post this for everyone from the journal of family medicine....

Hey Friend!.

I would SO.

Avoid.

Peroxide at any given cost!! Peroxide is ancient remedy and my guess is your dermatologist is probably older than you are?.

Use saline solution or warm water with a bit of salt in it. It prevents the wounds from drying and cracking which can cause other infections..

This is from the journal of family medicine practice....

"It is a staple in medicine cabinets everywhere, a first-line treatment for the small cuts and scrapes that a hazardous world can inflict upon our skin. But does hydrogen peroxide really make a difference?.

"According to most studies of it's effectiveness, not really. Parents and.

School.

Nurses might insist otherwise, but researchers have found that hydrogen peroxide has little ability to reduce bacteria in wounds and can actually inflame healthy skin cells that surround a cut or a scrape, increasing the amount of time wounds take to heal."..

Update here.....

I slept long last night, but not a good, peaceful.

Sleep.

Woke up during the night with the cold shakes twice, despite having the.

Heating pad.

As my comfort creature.... and of course, the PAIN was still there when I woke up this morning.....

So I spent the day in the ER.... they had me checked in and whisked to the back before I'd even had a chance to sit down... within 5 minutes they had an IV in me with some wonderful.

Toradol.

Shot through it my pain went from a 10+ to about a 3 in less than 5 minutes how I wish I could take that stuff around the clock!! They did bloodwork, a panel of 6 x-rays, and a urine test... the surgical residents came down and reviewed it all and came in to talk to me. Apparently there's nothing "really" wrong, except that I've either pulled the main muscle on the left side a bit or a stitch might have come loose inside nothing showed up on the x-rays or in the bloodwork. The urine test did show a slight UTI (never had one before!), but nothing heavy duty yet. So I left there with.

Septra.

For the UTI and bottles of sugar-free acetiminophen for the pain. So that's it.....

I've taken it so easy that I'm surprised that I could have a pulled muscle or pulled a stitch through, but then again, these sneeze and cough fits I've been having could have done it.... so... I just have to take it easy, LONGER. Nothing more than.

Walking.

, and even that in moderation, because the muscle pull could have been from over-compensating for the slight pain on the left side and so I was changing the way I walk or so said the doctor... plus she wants me on the pain acetiminophen around the clock since it's an anti-inflammatory. Between that and the liquid.

Septra.

, I won't have room in my pouch to eat or drink anything!.

So there it is I'm alive and well.... just a bit of a setback, but it'll pass in time..

Thanks to everyone for chiming in on my post... if you all hadn't been so adamant about me getting seen, I probably would have put it off another day or two. (I'm just stubborn like that)... plus, it's hubby's birthday today and I was feeling bad enough not baking him a cake or taking him out to dinner, and then to have him spend the day in the ER.... I sure owe him now, LOL.....

So, better safe than sorry.... and if nothing else, at least I'm treating the UTI early enough that it won't get any worse!.

Thanks again, everyone!.

I'm a year out and still have weird feelings, sudden pains, etc, that I have no idea what's causing it, and I wonder if something is wrong. I guess it's all about paying attention to your body.. something we weren't used to doing before.

Hi there.

A very tiny number of us have problems with UTI's. I am the self proclamed queen of the UTI, sad to say. I got them before.

Surgery.

But now it's just crazy. My specialist and I are thinking that maybe I am not getting enough liquid but it's only a theory. Yes they are very painful and in fact I have one right now. I was very lucky to have absolouetly no side effects accet for this strange manifestation. Apparently the rest of my body adapts exceptionally well but not my bladder... go fiqure..

Although it can be a damn nusance and very painful I still wouldn't trade my life now for what it was then..

You sound like you are doing great otherwise. Take care and all the best,.

I had several bouts of chills and cold sweats. I am now 22 days out from.

Surgery.

And those problems are more or less gone. I was told that the anesthetic can stay in your system and cause weird body temp problems. I also had a slight UTI which cleared up by itself. It is not a surprise to me that some of us get UTIs. In fact I am surprised that more people do not get them considering we all had catheters...
