First of all What is the Difference in the Medifast Diet and Atkins? Looking forward for any response. 2nd question I got is.. My first two weeks of meals arrived yesterday and I'll be starting on Monday. I have to say I'm scared to death. I don't know what to expect and even what to do. There are 5 meals and then I eat one lean and green one. |

I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the right answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably can help you..

Thanks so much for the reply. I have another question as well. The thought of eating eggs that are dried and need water added to them simply grosses me out especially since we have our own chickens and fresh organic eggs. Can't I have one fresh egg instead of eggs from a box?.
Thanks again,. Tkncntrl Renee.. |

I did find a 5 day sample menu! Yea that will be so helpful..
Renee who is tkncntrl (short for taking control).. |

I don't know the 'technical' answer to that. The powdered eggs aren't as bad as I expected, and you can dress them up with onions and bacon bits too! Eggs are listed in 'other food' section (make sure you search 'egg' singular - it's the same way with most of the other foods) so you can still see what you are taking in. The only other thing I'd caution you on is the nutritional values. The Medifast meals are set up so that if you eat 5 meals in a day, you get all your vitamins and minerals - if you are taking a vitamin on top of Medifast you are getting what you need..
I know I didn't give you a straight answer! So here's my attempt at one - try the powered eggs, if you really don't like them, go with the regular ones you eat and it will be fine, just follow the portion/condiment guidelines.. |
|
I did a search in the nutrition forum and it said not to skip a Medifast meal and the real egg can be used in the green and lean meal. Guess I'm going to have a lot of reading to to..

The reading will help. Good luck! And there is always someone on-line when you need that extra push!.

I soak the egg overnight and it doesn't taste half bad. I also soak the soup over night to so when I eat it a lunch...it is yummy..
The food can be an adjustment. I have food allergies so my food has always been a bit blah to keep the allergies in check. I eat the bad food and I get reactions from serious belly ache, throwing up, rashes, sores in my mouth and the real fun one..swelling of tongue. Yeah that one is a WHOLE lot of fun.. I also put hot sauce in the soups and eggs. I have peppercorns that I grind up.. Most important thing..Have a food scale and blender. Both of those help with the plan big time... |

Real eggs can be part of your (or all of your) Lean & Green meal. Three whole eggs = 1 lean. If you don't like the idea of powdered eggs, don't eat them. There are plenty of other options. Meal replacement is the whole idea of Medifast. Pick five Medifast meals, and create one lean & green for yourself (using the guidelines) and you will lose weight.
And for the record, I've lost 81 pounds doing it... |

Good luck in your start tomorrow. I will be starting my 3rd week and so far so good. Check out the recipe board to get ideas on how to make the food more tolerable. It will take a little bit to get used to! Breaking your lean and green up for 2 seperate meals may be good for hunger and for eating with your family. I also do that on days when we are eating together. Try to relax and take it 1 day at a time (sometimes in my case 1 hour at a time). Let us know how you are doing!!!!!..

Hi Everyone..
I think now, I will start either tomorrow or Tuesday. I have plans to be out and about most of the day so I think Tuesday will be best... This is a re-start for me so certain parts of it are scary but for the most part I am looking forward to the possibility of success. Getting ready to love and respect me and my body.. Christie.. |

If you want an honest answer...you are really gonna have to want this. If you don't, I see that you are leaving yourself open for alot of "outs." Believe me, I do not say that to try to discourage you! You absolutely can do this! I am in a similar situation and if you go into it already thinking of so many negatives, you may be opening yourself up for disaster. So, first, be positive!.
You most likely are not going to like most of the food on the first try. But I promise, if you stick with it, after about a week your taste buds will change and the food will taste much better. Not all of it! I still don't like some. But if you try something and don't like it, be sure to wait a week or more and try it again. You'll be surprised! Personally, I recommend making it as the package suggests first, then you can tweak it after you see what you think.. Cooking for the family is a challege. But if you eat your lean and green for dinner, you can all have the same thing and sit down to a nice meal together. You will be eating a meat and a vegetable. If you make something additional that you can't have, say rice, then you just pass on that. As for your children, you are teaching them that you love yourself and you want to be healthy and happy. You are not starving yourself, you are eating right. There is nothing wrong with any of that.. It is a drastic change. The first week will be hard in alot of ways, but ask anyone here. If you push through that week, you will feel so much better!!! You won't feel hungry. You will have energy. And you will start seeing results! And that makes all the difference. Make small, managable goals. Keep a bar or some pretzels or puffs in your purse in case you get stuck out of the house at meal time. Carry a water bottle around with you. Think one packet and one day at a time. It keeps you from feeling too overwhelmed. You can do this. I am married with 3 kids. I've been on Medifast for 5 weeks and have lost 24 pounds. I'm dealing with cooking things for them that I can't eat. This is just the way it is. I can deal with it for a year or two if it means I get to live the rest of my life happily. Good luck to you. You can do it!.. |

Day one done and it wasn't so bad. The mint bars and pudding are easy to take. I was out and about from 7:30 am to 6:30pm so I had the bars so I could have something to eat during the day. Evening meal was a salad with chicken breast and 4 sprays of dressing and pudding for dessert..
Amy thanks so much for the reply. I know more than understand that if I"m not willing to go into this 100% then I will find a way out. The way out will not help me though. If I want to save my knees I have to lose the weight. If I want to feel better and be able to move easier than I have to do this.. Onward I go.. Renee.. |

Hi,.
My first two weeks are due to arrive on Monday, and I'm with you tkncntrl. I'm scared too. I have tried sooo many things and always got bored and quit. This is my last attempt before bypass. I have about 130 lbs to lose before my daughter's wedding in about a year. I am VERY HOPEFUL and DETERMINED to succeed. I am asking very humbly for help to do this. Thanks to all out there!.. |
|
I hope your first day went well!!! One day at a time... at least that's what I keep telling myself..
|
|
One day at a time. In some cases 1 hour at a time. Good luck!!!!!..

I hear you on the being scared....I wasn't exactly sure what it was that I was scared of...that I could not tolerate it? That Medifast would not work? Or that it would just be another failed diet? Perhaps all of the above.
I have to say Medifast has been the most simple and rewarding plan I have been on. The food is not gourmet but if you view it as your anti-obesity pill it makes it much more easy when you are first starting out.. My life sounds similar to yours except that one of my daughters is a Type 1 diabetic and my husband is not interested in eating healthy.. I told my daughters that I am just doing my best to eat healthy for my body. Their bodies are growing and required different healthy foods than an adult who is not going to get any taller. I do my best to continue to offer them healthy, well balanced meals and the occasional snack. I encourage them to help make these decisions as well as enlist their help in making meals.. Quick, easy and portable meals are what work best for me especially when we are on the go. This is what a day of meals for me might or has looked like:. Day 1. Breakfast: Chocolate pudding shake. Am snack: cinnamon roll bar (cut into eight pieces). Lunch: chili. Pm snack: honey mustard pretzels. Dinner (L&G): 3 serv green beans & 3 Morning Star sausage. Snack: brownie!. Day 2. Breakfast: PB ice cream made into shake. Am snack: lemon bar. Lunch: beef stew. Pm snack: chili puffs. Dinner (L&G): 3 serving of salad greens & 1 kirkland turkey breast patty & 2srvg of Fat aka dressing. Snack: pudding. I kept it simple the first few days but with time and plenty of browsing in the recipe section you will find great recipes for the lean and green such as green bean lasagna, veggie omelet, tuna roll ups or grilled chicken and zucchini ribbons.. Good luck!.. |
|
