* Resolve to lose slowly.

This is sometimes harder than you think. You have to change your entire mindset to focus on the journey not the destination..

* Do the math..

A realistic goal is losing 1 to 2 pounds a week to stay healthy. You will lose rapidly at first, but this will not last, so prepare yourself for that right off the bat..

That means being realistic about your time frame. If you need to lose 25 pounds, figure you are embarking on at least a three-month program. Fifty pounds? Assume a time frame of at least six months. Aim to burn 500 to 1000 calories a day..

* Set short term goals..

Reach for mini-milestones. Instead of focusing on just losing 25 pounds, go for and celebrate that first 5-pound loss..

* Track your progress..

Record your successes in a way that works for you. Take advantage of online programs, use a notebook, or keep a journal. Whatever keeps you on track..

* Think about long-term goals..

It's OK to think big, but it may mean starting small and working towards a big goal..

So if your long-term goal is losing 50 pounds in a year, for example, maybe your short-term goal is getting through the day on plan with no variations..

*Be accountable..

Take responsibility for your own actions. Choosing what you put in your mouth and how often is simply a decision. Be accountable to someone. Give someone that authority of accountability over you, even if it is just an on-line friend. If you could do this on your own, you wouldn't be fat and out of control. Don't ever be ashamed to ask for help..

There's an old saying: Lose it slowly, keep it off. This adage makes sense for at least one reason: Losing weight slowly means you've had time to adopt new behaviors, like eating less and exercising more..

And when you focus on the process of changing your habits not just on losing weight those new and healthier habits will be a big boost in helping you attain your weight loss goals..

Well my first majort goal is close to happening it was to be below 300 by new years. I hit 303 today..

My next goal is 250 by JUNE 12 (the end of school, I am a teacher.).

My next goal is 225 my Sept 6..

I am already reevaluating my goal weight after seeing the possibilities..

My short term goal is to now ad some physical stuff and be able to stick to it...

Those are really good - and important goals..

My new goals are all going to be exercise related..

- To run 10 minutes longer every month.

- To do 10 more push-ups a day every month.

- To do 20 more sit-ups every month..

So, assuming a starting point of ZERO, in 6 months (June) I should be able to.....

-Run for an hour.

-Do 60 push-ups per day.

-Do 120 sit-ups per day..

Amen Damon! I've been here almost 2 years and have seen so many people come and go. I've had about 10 people (when I was posting here more actively) ask me what the fastest way was to shed the weight. Although I'm 18 pounds above my original goal, I still fit in 32s very comfortably..

Great thread Damon..

My goals are:.

100 Total lbs on Nutrisystem then 10 more either on Nutrisystem or my own to get below 200 and stay there.

Average 10lbs lost per month which works out to between 2 and 2.5 weekly..

I also have 2 mini goals with each 10 I lose. First is to get below the next 10lb mark (i.e. today at 254, next goal is 249). Then to hit my 10lb loss mark (so the next will be 244.6). The mini goals keep me focused and motivated since they are reached at fairly regular intervals...

My goals are to continue losing 1% of my bodyweight each week, so the closer I get to goal the slower the absolute weight loss will be, but similar percentage..

My second goal is to use my rowing machine 5 days per week. I'm at 14 minutes per day now and plan to add a minute per week until I'm at 30 minutes x 5 days/week. I plan on maintaining that until I'm below 350 then I plan on joining a gym and start lifting weights again...
