First question I have is Which diet plan has the best success rate Nutrisystem or nutrisystem? Hoping for any response. Another question on my mind: Hello everyone... Hope you all are having a great day. I posted something about this in the "is water that important" topic and thank you for those who replied but I thought I should post over here so I don't hi-jack that thread..

Anyway, I am really confused over this past week. I am in my third week of the program and after losing around 8 pounds the first week, I have been hovering around 287-289 for the past week and a half. This is much too early to be at a plateau. I have cut all the diet soda out of my diet, I have been trying my hardest to get the 1/2 oz of water per pound of weight (I normally get about 130 oz instead of the 144 I should). I am walking 2 miles a day M-F with one of my co-workers. I have been following the program 100%.

I sent the counsellors and email and I just got a canned response from them. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions...

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I find an decent answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could give you help..

Yes, I have been adding in the extra carb at breakfast and dinner and the fruit at lunch. As far as that goes, when do I stop doing that? I am guessing when I have less that 100 left to go, or is it something that I keep doing until I reach my goal?..

Like you, I think that you would give that up once you get to less than 100 to lose. Maybe one of the guys that lost more than a 100 could help..

My best advice is to follow the program 100%. Stick it out and you'll get to where you want to go...

One explanation could be that you are gaining muscle, but that would only be true if your workouts are significantly more, erm workouty, than what you are used to..

Another explanation could be that your are overdoing it. As in not eating enough food or doing too much exercise. That would basically kick your body into "starvation mode," where you conserve fat and eat muscle (maintain the highest calorie substance as a priority for survival)...

I try to look at it on a larger scale. There have been times on my weekly weigh in that I have lost less or more than prior weeks. But if you look at it for a month (or more) it all seems to average out. Sometimes the body does strange things, just know that if you stick to the plan 100%, it will all work out in the end..

As far as the extra carb goes, I was told by a counselor to stop the extra carb and fruit when I got under a hundred pounds to lose..

When I started I had 124 pounds to lose and now I am halfway home to goal, I have stopped the extra carb and fruits. That has not hindered my weight loss one bit. I think I stopped the extras when I was at about 90 pounds to lose..

Hope this helps...

Hang in there, Matt. Like others have said, the body does strange things. I hit a snag at 3 weeks too. Not sure if that's when the body says "Whoa, what's going on here?" or what. You may try replacing the 2 mile's worth of calories with a protein drink on the days that you exercise. Maybe one of those 160 cal low-fat, low-carb types.

I was doing pretty intense strength training though. If you don't get any better ideas, give it a try for a day or 2 and let us know how it works for ya. If that's the problem, you'll see immediate, dramatic results. Can't hurt..

Thanks for the input, all advice is welcome. I'm not trying to go into panic mode here, after all I didn't put all this weight on overnight so how can I expect to lose it so fast. But going from a 8 or so pound loss to a 1 pound gain with no change confused me. That is why I thought I would ask since I am new to this whole thing...

Yeah, it is frustrating sometimes. Look at where you are at the end of the month before you try to restructure anything. You've lost about 1/2 a pound per day so far according to your ticker and that's really good...

It's the rule of 3..

Three days in your body is in the worst of the detoxing from all the bad crap you've eaten. You likely have a headache, and your tastebuds aren't liking most of the food after being fed crap for so long..

Three weeks in, your body freaks out and the weight loss slows. It's not uncommon for people to *gain* in the third week. It's normal. Your body has likely lost a fair chunk of weight in the first two weeks, it needs a chance to recover..

Three months in, you're used to the plan. At this point, you think you've got it covered, and you can start to play with the plan. You can't..

Not loosing for a week or two, especially if you're fluxuating up and down a few pounds, is not a plateau. It's not even remotely close. You have to weigh the same for at least a month for it to be close to a plateau...

Thanks for the input everyone, it is greatly appreciated. I will keep in mind the rule of 3's, it makes sense. I guess I was more concerned that I might be doing something wrong, that is the pessimist in me. I will continue to just stick with the plan 100% and I am sure everything will work out in the end...

I was reluctant to add carb or protein to my plan as suggested to compensate for the amount of exercise I was doing. After more than a week of not losing I conceded and added a protein shake for my afternoon snack. I've only added about 150 calories but the weight has dropped precipitously for that last three days. Hmmm. Guess they were right. I feel great, also...

OK, here's my secret, don't tell. I've never dropped the extra carb or fruit..

Now that I'm getting closer to goal, it's probably my problem. I like the extra and will have to decide wheather I want to lose the last couple of pounds or keep the added "stuff"..

Also exercise is not my thing. I've tried but can't get into any routine. I am, however much more active and mobile. I don't huff and puff doing daily tasks and even walk the steps every now and then vs the elevator...

I can attest to the value of the Extra Carbs for the +100 pound gang. During my first month I didn't see much progress and I was avoiding the extra carbs and fruit. I thought they'd only slow my progress. At the start of my second month I added them in and I really started noticing results (in the mirrow anyway). I didn't own a scale capable of handling the gravity of 400+ man my first month so I'll never know If Im losing it faster now than I did in my first month, but I no longer wake up in the middle of the night hungry and I don't feel weak during the day anymore. So it's worked out well for me so far...

Now that's what I'm talkin about!.

If your problem is too few calories, you'll see immediate, dramatic, results. If it's not, you won't. Easy enough to try for a few days..

You don't say how many calories you are consuming every day but if you are not eating enough, it will slow you down, especially if you are adding more exercise than your body is accustomed to. Make sure you are eating ALL the foods including the add-ins, and drinking ALL the water(if not more). Sometimes salt can make you retain water, and water is heavy. Just keep your salt intake to a minimum. As to the extra carb & fruit, when you get under 100 left to loose you should probably eliminate them but you can experiment a little. If they keep you from being hungry and don't affect your weight loss................... Your results may vary...

Like has already been said, you are going to hit weeks like this. One thing that you should do if you haven't is to take your measurements. I found that on the weeks when I seemed to hit a stall, I lost inches. You can track your measurements here on the website. Keep us posted on your progress...

I don't like frozen or fresh fruit, but I do like dried fruit (like apples or bananas). Does anyone know if you can sub dried fruit on the plan?..

My best suggestion - make yourself eat either fresh or frozen fruit. I'll bet that you'll learn to like it and even get to where you look forward to it. I almost never ate fruit before Nutrisystem and now I eat it two to three times a day..

The real way to success on this program is to not look at it as a weight loss program but rather view it as the way to a new life. That includes eating the right things in the right proportions and eating several times a day. And don't forget to drink your water...
