Got a question, hope someone can answer... Who will give me Medifast recipes for baking kakes and bread? I will really appreciate.? Hoping for any response. Second question of mine... I have lost 17 pounds.....But.

I have not stuck to the.

Liquid diet.

....I truly hate it....told the DR I hated it and he would not change his mind...... I started it the day after Thanksgiving....now it gags me, so I have been eating mostly low fat protein.....mostly turkey and turkey broth..I figure if I can have a protein bar, why not a piece of Turkey... I occasionally have a shake...or a protien bar..... But typically like today...it is almost 9 am here...and the thought of a cold or even hot chocolate shake makes me gag. I do not care for sweets.....never have.....so yuck..... It is easier just not to eat...but that is not good either........

Anyway....my.

Surgery.

Is on the 13th....I have three days left of "liquid diet" before I go on clear liquids.... I know others who have not consumed all the "liquid"...... but am worried that just losing weight will not shrink my liver.......

Does anyone know? At this point it is what it is......liz..

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could assist you..

Well I was never put on a.

Liquid diet.

Pre op until the 2 days before.

Surgery.

And then did clears for 2 days. My surgeon said it was all about losing the weight no matter how you had to do it. I did it by eating protein and salads for 3 months with an occasional slip up! My.

Surgery.

Was 3 weeks ago and everything went well and my liver was reduced in size enough to perform the.

Surgery.

However, just remember you do have to continue liquids after.

Surgery.

For an amt of time determined by your team as well! Good luck and I think you will get through it just fine! Readjust your way of thinking for a bit and just take it one day at a time!..

Elizabeth, I feel like I am doing the hard work, I have lost 17 pounds in 10 days......... the ingredients on the shake package do not appear to contain any magic bullet....it is non fat dry milk, fructose, artifical flavor, and vitamins and minerals...... 20 grams of sugar and only 14 of protein...........

After.

Surgery.

I can choose to have non flavored protein.......in broth or whatever I want.......

This is not a question about whethr I am committed.......it is whether there is a magic bullet in.

Optifast.

800 that I am missing by not drinking that brand..........

Lizzie:.

Are you able to add s/f syrups to the shakes? I had a really hard time with the plain shakes as well, however, my bariatric center was great to provide delicious recipes and I was able to use s/f syrups that added better flavor to the drinks..

I was on full liquids upon being discharged from the hospital and if it wasn't for the recipes they gave me or Shelly's website:.

Theworldaccordingtoeggface.com.

I do not know what I would do..

I would run this by your doctor and let them know of the hard time you are having with it. Not only do they want your liver to shrink but your intenstines to be cleared, hence the no solids. If your team says it's ok than more power to you. My bariatric team put it to me very simple- -if you don't follow the program they will delay the.

Surgery.

..

Good luck and I.

Hope.

You find Shelly's recipes as helpful as I did...

20 grams of sugar???? 14 grams of protein????.

Good Lord.....

That is so backwards....

You should not be getting anything with more than 3 grams of sugar per serving, less than five carbs per serving, and at least...at least 20 grams of protein per serving.....

My protein I use comes from freakin walmart for heaven sake and beats this to shit..

Please Lizzie..please check again with your doctor. Now you have me worried about you....

My pre-op diet, I was suppose to be getting 90 to 120 grams of liquid whey protein a day...how exactly can you do this at 14 grams at a time???.

Optifast.

Is not the only source for a.

Liquid diet.

...I know lots of doctors use it, swear by it, but there are other options. like I said...mine came from walmart...I lost 22 pounds in my 17 days...and I did not have to do the.

Magnesium.

Citrate either, like so many others in here do. what a blessing that was. that stuff is just nasty...

I am supposed to have 5-6 shakes a day....and can have one protein bar...the bar has only 10 grams of sugar and 14 grams of protein, and I can tolerate that...it takes pretty bad....but it is not sicky sweet..... since I can have a bar, and I am allowed all the broth I want....I have been drinking a lot of turkey broth, and eating turkey meat....not tons of turkey meat once a day I can jam in 21 grams of protein, and no sugar..

I am having a sleeve gastrectomy because I have a stomach full of polyps...so my intestines will not be much of an issue...plus three days of clear liquid should take care of any residual turkey.....

I have had nothing but a decaf cup of tea today....I will have a protein bar sometime soon.......

Thanks for your concern............liz..

I hate to tell you but losing weight pre.

Surgery.

Does not mean your liver will shrink automatically. I had a bunch of studies done pre.

Surgery.

Showing a slightly enlarged, fatty liver, did a.

Liquid diet.

, lost about 10 pounds, had the.

Surgery.

With no complications. Then 8 months out had another set of studies done which revealed a slightly enlarged and fatty liver after losing 90 freaking pounds. Do the best you can do to get yourself ready for the.

Surgery.

- sometimes putting yourself through the discipline of the.

Liquid diet.

Doesn't make sense until after the.

Surgery.

When you are recovering and it is literally all you can have. Find a way to take in a high protein, low sugar liquid supplement that works for you, otherwise you will be really frustrated after.

Surgery.

Hang in there - deliver yourself to your surgeon in the best shape you can get into and set yourself up well for your recovery...

I recommend shopping for another protein supplement, one that has at least 20-25 gr. of protein per service and less than 5 gr. of carbs. There are a lot of them out there. You should be able to find one you can tolerate, and with the higher protein content, you wouldn't have to drinkg 5-6 of them a day. About half of that would do it...
