Question I have... Would you consider the Medifast Diet one of the better diets? Thanks in advance for any response. 2nd question I got is.. This is my first week on Medifast so I'm a newbie! I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to which meals allow you to lose the fastest. I know the web site recommends only 1 bar a day which I am going to keep in mind for the next time I order... But anything else? Or even tips on L&G would be awesome.

Any advice would be really amazing. I've been reading the discussion boards and I just love how supportive everyone is! Thanks for keeping me positive during these rough first few days..

Started 1/2/10: 183 lbs.

Today 1/4/10: 179 lbs.

70 day goal (for Spring Break!): 140 lbs..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably can help you..

You can have up to five of the crunch bars a day if you want. The limitation on bars is only for the maintenance bars which have higher calories and carbs. Personally, I'd skip the maintenance bars entirely until you actually get to maintenance; it is very hard to keep your carbs in the 80-85 range (which is optimal) if you throw in a maintenance bar as one of your meals..

Keep your carbs between 80-85 for the fastest results and eat whatever meals you like best. I always have two shakes a day and then just mix up the rest depending on my mood and I've lost very quickly...

You do not have to keep the crunch bars to one a day only the maintenance bars. (those have more cals/carbs)..

I've done all shake days and frankly it has made no difference so I eat whatever I feel like of my Medifast food each day..

And I agree get a scale for your food!..

Great advice Kurz. The only thing I would add is water, water, and more water. Make sure you get your water in daily...

Kurzweil: Wow, you're quick! I love it. Thank you so much for all of the great info. I actually did buy a scale, and although it isn't electronic, I think it does the job. I've been doing a little over 4 oz of lean a day since I'm not working out just yet. Do you think that's okay?.

GGRobin: Thank you to you as well! Good to know about the bars. I was worried b/c I've been eating 2 a day! Also, I have been monitoring my carbs trying to keep them between that range... So far, so good!..

Caliborne & FindingFreedom: Thanks guys! And yes to the water! It's hard, but I'm getting it down. Bathroom breaks every 30 minutes... at least! Haha...

SO true! The 64 oz isn't enough for me, although it is a great place to start. I truly can see a correlation between when I drink at least 100 oz of water and my losses. I won't go into TMI, but I'm pretty sure I pee out a lot of the fat (seriously, gross, I know, but true), so if I'm not drinking enough water, I don't think it is leaving my body..

Nope, you've got to eat the right amount of lean. That's not enough. The lowest amount is 5 oz for fattier type things, the highest amount is 7 oz for leaner items. Don't forget the healthy fats when needed - this is vital for your gallbladder! Go to "Success Tools" and then "Eat Right" and you'll see the different guideline PDFs..

Here are the lean options with the amount you should eat plus the healthy fat guidelines -.

Lean Options.

And here are the meatless options for lean, which I use all the time!.

Meatless options.

There are other things too like the.

Condiment Guidelines.

(they add up!) and.

Green Options.

Just keep on reading EVERYTHING you can get your hands on, asking questions here, and reading the blogs and boards, and you'll have the hang of it down in no time! Oh, you're totally fine on it not being a digital scale - I just measure out small portions of stuff (like very specific gram weights of veggies or cheese or things) and can't get that level of accuracy on the regular scales. I'm a measuring freak!..

Better safe than sorry, right? I'm all about measuring too! And good to know about the 5 oz. I'll fix that today! About the water... Going to get some more right now! Also, not gross about peeing the fat out. That's awesome and anyway you can lose it, then more power to you!..

Kurz, you're awesome..

I think you hit the nail on the head with the bars vs. shakes question and I second it. I think having more liquid meals make them that much easier to metabolize and by adding water on top of that, your kidneys are going into overtime to flush your system and hopefully take the fat with it..

But, mostly, I like that you can have more than one bar a day (S'mores are my FAVORITE)..

One other tip I'm trying out is to split my L&G over the day. Taking it all at once, though it may not be a caloric binge, is a volumetric binge! For example, it's physically impossible for me to eat 7 oz of tilapia and 3 cups of leafy greens in one sitting, Oy!.

If you provide your body smaller portions of healthy protein and veggies throughout the day, along with the Medifast meals, I imagine your system will thrive because it has a more consistent supply of food to burn. Perhaps it won't change the number on the scale any faster, but if it can keep me energized all day, all the better..

Good Luck!..

Yeah I made the mistake of eating the maintenance bars and got frustrated with Medifast back in '08. Then, I came back and am digging the crunch bars, especially the smore's. I love the hot cocoa too (with a lil vanilla extract). I haven't even missed my coffee. I split my L&G in two meals. I haaaaate to cook...which is one reason why I got so heavy it was so easy to just grab some fast food.

2 patties count as a meal and is in the leanest meat category. I want to stay in the leanest category for both meat and vegs because my metabolism is notoriously sluggish. So I watch those carbs closely. I went cold turkey and gave up my addiction to diet soda for my daily liquid intake lol. Now it's just water and when I'm further along, I'll add decaf tea.

I'm not wasting my optionals on Splenda either. So, I'm learning to do without artificial sweetners. Reteach my taste buds to like natural again. I also don't do the optional snack, so I can keep my intake down and not stall..

So far, almost two weeks into the program, down 21 pounds!..

I agree! I feel so much more satisfied when I split my L&G. I usually have a 1/2 cup Eggbeater frittata with a third of my veggies for lunch and then the rest of my L&G for dinner. And I feel it is preparing me for maintenance because I am eating real food more often...

I did notice that I lost more when I was doing shakes only, but I do add a lot of water and ice to them so that may be why..

Also, I am not sure if this is true for anyone else, but when I eat mostly bars, I have terrible medifarts....uncontrollable, very embarrassing. I love the bars, but if I eat more than a couple....watch out!..

I try to keep it to one bar a day, but I do like them..

Water is key for me too. The earlier in the day I start drinking it, the better I feel..

I will have to try splitting my eggs up into two meals. I love eggs, but honestly, 2 eggs + 4 eggs whites is way too much in one sitting!!!!!.

I am now just past the half way mark so I am really pleased so far...
